Been following this for a couple of weeks. It sounds like an awesome experiment, I'm excited to hear about what will come of this idea. I'll have to check out the test wallet later tonight!

Adam said: I believe the LTB network will be more like a firm, and that it will interact with other firms both as peers (other content creation networks) and partners (content distribution protocols).

So content that is funded with LTBcoin could be distributed via the ContentCoin network and compete against all other pieces of content from both the LTB network and other for the newly issued ContentCoins by trying to get as many people as possible to maintain a copy of their content on their personal harddrive, which then makes up a vast and very fast content distribution network.

It truly is a brave new world in front of us.

Yes, I think you're right that the LTB Network functions more like a firm, in that it distributes LTBCoin in a top-down way and only to those who produce content on its own network. A firm does the same thing and different divisions of the firm are implicitly or explicitly and directly or indirectly competing against each other for those funds (that come in the form of bigger budgets for that division's activities or even directly in the form of higher salaries for those working in those divisions).
One of the things that I either don't quite understand yet or that may be problematic in the model is the feedback loop between production and rewards. In a market the price system will make one's rewards dependent on some standard of success, but the way in which LTBCoins are distributed is not that of a market so the price system could not work (or only work in a indirect manner). And this may create incentive problems:
As long as you produce e.g. a 6,000 word article that is barely above a certain minimum standard of quality you get the same reward as somebody who wrote a 6,000 word brilliant ground breaking article. (although you mention somewhere that e.g. a shorter article that is deemed to be very good may get the same reward as a longer article of normal quality would).
If I understand this correctly, then this seems to encourage 'good enough' work and relatively discourage exceptional work.
Not sure what would be a good way to address this problem though. (I mention the idea of 'betting' on one's own work in a different thread as a possible mechanism, but not sure if that would work either.)

It would be easy to have a pageview, upvote/downvote, # of comments, or some other metric for determining article quality.

I don't know. It may not be that easy to come up with a system that is difficult to manipulate or that makes manipulation unprofitable.

I couldn't be more interested in the future of LTBcoin. I love the flexibility of it - if the foundation layer (Mastercoin, countercoin, etherium) doesn't work out, it can just be transferred to another blockchain with proof-of-burn.
A coin that has no intrensic value... until WE make it worth something through producing great content.

I'm wondering whether this could become a podcasters tipping coin of choice.

We have thrown around a few ideas to tackle this challenge.  One of the more attractive solutions in my opinion is to use tipping (in LTBcoin) as the primary metric to determine what any article or podcast is "worth" in terms of distribution from the LTBcoin Central Bank (lol, just kidding, let's call it the "autonomous distribution protocol" or something).  Some sort of voting mechanism might also work, but tipping to me is still a better metric because it requires someone to part with a scarce resource, it is democratic, objective, and easy to measure.
So for example if the distribution for Week 1 is 100,000 LTBcoin, and total tips received by all ACTs were 1000 LTBcoin, then each ACT would receive an additional payout proportional to the amount of total tips they received (if ACT 1 received 400 of the 1000 total tipped, that ACT would receive an additional 40,000 LTBcoin (40%) from that week's distribution).  This could be just the tipping pool, there might be other pools to distribute rewards also (comments that also received tips, for example).
I've struggled with how to prevent people from tipping their own content to try to unfairly skew their respective payout and the only thing I could think of was to exclude the highest tip from the equation.  I also think we could determine the distribution on an ACT by ACT basis rather than a content by content basis.

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. The Proof of Tipping model is interesting and it has several advantages:1. unlike 'likes' and upvotes, tipping uses scarce resources, which encourages careful consideration of quality by the tipper2. it gives people who tip a stake in the content they tip, which incentivizes those people to help promote said content
I see the following problems though (you mention one of them) if tipping is also intended as a form of content curation and hence of trying to predict what content will be successful.
I think this function is important (and I think it is implicit in the Proof of Tipping model by giving more weight to early tips (which in a sense is the assumoption that future consumers are likely to appreciate the content about as much as the early consumers))) because LTB has to have a way of selecting content so that content that is more likely to be popular will be promoted (by being shown on the "front page" for example) while low quality content that is unlikely to be popular should not get in the way of the audience that only wants to see high quality content.
If tipping is also used as a way to predict which content will be popular (and so not just to reward content and to measure 'afterwards' how successful said content was), then it runs into the following problem

    1. In the 'proof of tipping' (POT) model tipping really is an untenable hybrid of tipping and predicting/investing. Normally tipping is the expression of a personal preference. I tip an article because I thought it was great. Predicting/investing on the other hand is a way of trying to get a ROI by predicting better than other people do some future event. In this case the event is the relative popularity of an article and thereward comes in the form of newly issued LTBcoins. reward comes in the form of newly issued LTBcoins.

The problem is that these two different natures can pull in opposite directions. For example, it makes sense for me to predict/invest in an article because I think a lot of other people will like the article even though I myself may think the article is not very good. And conversely, it makes sense for me to tip and article if I think it's great even though I thinkfew others would agree with me. few others would agree with me.

In the first case the predictive function undermines the expressive function and in the second case the expressive function undermines the predictivefunction. function.

    2. The system can be manipulated by somebody (or a group of people) tipping their own article as much as possible, undermining both the predictive and theexpressive functions. expressive functions.

Very interested in LTBcoin and also very new to it.  It has caused me to really put some thought into a project I toyed around with in the past.  I'm not as technical as most of the people here, but I have a unique idea for the cryptocurrency world.
