    The responses I see in threads like these embarrass me on behalf of my gender.

    To seriously respond to the OP's original question:

    As early as 2011 (when I joined the Bitcoin community), I met and corresponded with male and female Bitcoin enthusiasts, although, I must admit, the ratio was always skewed. Recently, I have noticed the scales balancing a bit to the point at which the "Women In Bitcoin" panel at the recent Chicago conference voiced feelings that echoed my own - Why focus on their gender as if it were an anomaly? As long as they aren't being discriminated against, women will inevitably make an impact in the crypto space.

    I see your point about focusing on the gender, or rather not focusing on it. It's a double edged sword at times. You don't want to focus on the gender because it shouldn't matter. However, it can be beneficial to outsiders who see a panel or group tailored to them which may introduce them into the culture. It's always tricky.

    @kerneloops

    @knircky ... How can we innovate to attract these people and improve the world.

    How?

    Here's a thought, and this has nothing to do with Bitcoin: try not to think of people based on gender or race, unless the topic is about gender or race.

    If your concern is, and you sort of mention it, how do we educate others about Bitcoin,

    Actually when building and designing things its fundamentally important to understand what people need, like and want.

    I do not believe that getting the world out is the problem bitcoin has. Instead we need applications that are useful for consumers. Ignoring women is quite silly. They are big drivers for user adoption. The fact that few women like bitcoin shows that bitcoin needs to change.

    @heunland You could start by treating women with respect rather than making repeated sweeping generalizing statements about what YOU think is the reason women haven´t embraced Bitcoin.

    Herunland I must have deeply offended you, since you really attacked me personally in your response. I am Sorry. U are certainly the type of community member we need more of.

    I do not think that i disrespect woman by acknowledged that what I like is not automatically what they like, please understand that's what pointed out.

    I was looking at the topic from a marketing/focus group perspective. there is no judgement. i believe anyone should do and like whatever they want. being able to acknowledge differences without judgement is actually required in my eyes to respect.

    I feel a lot of ignorance from the bitcoin community. I feel that we often believe the world should think they way we do which is simply not helpful when we are a less than a 1% minority in society.

    @knircky, you did not offend me deeply, nor did I intent to attacked you personally. I merely pointed out that you cannot generalize or theorize about what other people´s motivation may be to join the bitcoin community or stay away. If you do not yourself belong to that particular group of people (in this case, women) it really doesn´t matter what your theory is about why we act as we do. As you yourself stated, there is diversity of opinion regardless of gender.

    The point being that women definitely will not be motivated to join the presently male-centered bitcoin community when they are immediately being confronted, labeled and belittled by their male peers about what might be their motivation to be interested in this particular subject. As others have mentioned here, it doesn´t really matter, we are all working toward to same goal (I hope) of bringing equal access to the world of finance to all.

    The fact that I have vigorously defended the women´s viewpoint in this thread is not because I was somehow personally offended, but because I felt I needed to speak out on behalf of the voiceless majority of women who don´t have the courage to do so themselves or are tired of confronting male stereotypes propagated here and on other bitcoin forums around the internet.

    I have not met any girls who have heard of Bitcoin before. But, on the same sense, most people in general I met haven't heard of Bitcoin before either.
