    My wife tends to give me the eye roll when talking about it...but I try to back it up with relatable cross referrences. Sometimes it works, sometimes no...I think being digital it still seems gimmicky and a bit nerdy. Truth be told though, guys and girls both seem to have a general lack of understanding or willingness to take it seriously that I've dealt with when trying to explain it

    I talked to my 55ish-year-old mother (American citizen, Northern Illinois resident; working class income, technologically challenged nature, but has a mobile telephone and laptop computer because life requires here to use them to keep on existing nowadays), she was only mildly interested and at least moderately skeptical. All the standard concerns that people have about digital cryptographic non-governmentaly administrated open source computer geek currency were present.

    When I think about it, for her, money (id est: fiat United States of America dollars and all the systems it flows through), even after being presented with the current capabilities of bitcoin, doesn't need a lot of improving. It's just not a need she has ever considered herself to have. Weighing that against all this unfamiliar technology jargon, the lack of general acceptance and probably most importantly to me, the price in dollars volatility, and she is just miles away from being in a place where using bitcoin is a good option for her right now.

    @1446721287 Is this only a Man's world?

    when cryptocurrencies become as "cool" (and easy-to-use) as social networking, girls (and everyone else) will jump on board.

    @irnhnve Statistically speaking, females are more prone to be risk averse which is why the finance industry is overwhelmingly male. This coupled with the lack of female involvement in the tech industry compared again to male involvement creates one huge male dominated industry that is crypto.

    I remember listening to an investment expert a while ago on public radio talking about women and finances and how the stereotypical female "passivity" can be a desirable trait in an investor because people with that trait are less impulsive and less likely to feel the need constantly fuss with their investments. Just food for thought.

    Was that comment intentionally sexist or just completely oblivious?

    I would say it's certainly a minority. The wife got interested with Doge and owns some BTC and a few other alts. She's not as obsessed as I think she may think I am with it, but I catch her checking her balances and looking for places to go shopping with bitcoin.

    I didn't mean to be insulting at all so I apologize if I came off like that. I'm only speaking from my own experience. it's tough to get people into bitcoin when it's still in an early stage.. most people don't know about it, and don't seem interested in learning. but when it becomes easy enough to use, more people will jump on, then they finally start using it & talking about it. and it's been the same way for a lot of other tech advances, they all started out as niches. I haven't been a part of most of them.. but it's interesting to see bitcoin as it is now, a misunderstood advancement in financial technology. Most peoples' reactions are un- or under-educated, but hopefully that will improve as it gets easier to use & gets wider adoption.
