  This will be hard, but I think up and down votes are too simplistic for good feedback. It would be nice to have other mechanisms that would correlate to badges. Like if a user always has a good handle on information they get a "brain bage". This could be triggered with a TIL (Things I learned) button or something similar

  If a user is funny, which has theraputic benefits, any user who laughs at their comment clicks a jester button that would contribute to their "jester badge".

  To make things more interesting the more folks click on jester or any more descriptive button related to a comment, the more that user can level up and be a level 3 jester or level 10 brainiac.

  This would be far more useful than reddit's karma and may even allow for the system to dish out lower rewards for lower levels and reserve slightly higher rewards for those who have earned their high badge levels over time.

  There also needs to be a badge for someone who finds a factual error or typo. This can help increase the quality of content and reward someone for their attention to detail.

  about the different badges.. brain badge, jester, etc..  that seems like reddit upvoting, but split between different attributes.  Its a good idea, but it would still be prone to trolls who just want to arbitrarily up- or down-vote everything.  I think that the idea can work, if it's combined with some kind of user reputation, like ebay.  that's a model that really works- you buy something from a seller with 10,000+ feedback and 99.8% positive, you know the box will arrive in the mail.
  
  so is there a way to combine those two?  users can slowly build their reputation in the community, then when they click on those badges, their up- or down-vote counts for more than some anonymous person who just started posting 10 minutes ago?

  Instead of counting upvotes to measure the eligibility of a comment for LTB rewards, it might be better to count the number of replies it gets. This way, even if spam or a trollish comment gets posted, it won't "count" unless someone replies to it.
  Hopefully, this will encourage others to ignore trolls since feeding one might result in them receiving LTBcoins!

  I think it would be great if we could simply tip any comment (or post) using LTBcoin.  Valuable comments would receive some tips - up votes and downvotes don't really capture the true value of any comment whereas tipping does.  Even better would be if the network matches amounts received in tips by some % of the tip fund, which would enhance the value of any tip received.

  Website-based proof of consumption is a terrible idea for podcasts. Podcasts are so great because you don't have to visit the website of each one of them to see if a new episode has come out.
  Also, almost everyone listens to podcasts on their mobile devices, and not even half of those have a permanent internet connection.
  
  If proof of consumption is desirable, let the speakers include a key word at a random point in the episode. Listeners can note or remember this word and redeem for an LTBcoin at any time they want to.

  One important feature for expanding the audience of a podcast is the spreading of relevant excerpts.
  I'm thinking of short episode summaries or quotes published on Twitter, together with a reference to @ltbcoin.
  
  Those reach a large audience, promote the podcast and save can save from the effort of listening to the whole episode. Maybe this counts as a valuable act as well?

  I like the keyword idea bc I too download and then listen. Its easier on battery life.

  The problem could be the wide context for which feed back is getting applied. By building a more specific context, audience could be more constructive and expressive,
  Do you think we can improve this by letting the commentator be judged within a more specific context he declares rather than the just the entire content itself?This context itself would selected from a few pre-set list. the list would be created thoughtfully with a view to add structure to the discussion.
  In the case above for example, the context for comment could have been 'rubenalexander has an Epiphany' The audience would go through his comment and give feed back weather or not it is indeed an epiphany. Audience can also continue to add to his comment under a continued context 'adityachittor appreciates the breakthrough'.
  This could lead to structured discussions and quality feed back overall. Ideally, if there is reward to feedback, the audience should be able to give input as per their choice of level of involvement rather that a binary and wide context (harder said than done).
