How else should the Audience "Mine" LTB? - Proof of Tip and Proof of Comment

I have a couple interesting methods in development, but I wanted to introduce the idea of having a set amount of LTBcoins that is distributed daily to people who Tip, and people to comment. These could come from the same pool of value, or each have their own.

Lets say there are 100 LTBcoins that will be distributed in a day to tippers. If one person tips .000001BTC or LTB and they are the only one, they would get all 100LTB. If 1000 people tip .01BTC in a day, they each get 0.1LTB. It is a system that rewards an encourages people to do whatever the incentivized action often because if they are the only ones at the time, they stand to gain financially even from a donation.

The same logic can be applied to Commenting. Comments (weighted by upvotes?) could have a set amount of LTB distribute hourly or daily, so the act of writing a good comment could be a profitable endeavor whereas a comment that is voted below the cut-off line does not qualify for the distribution of funds.

What else adds value? How would you like to earn LTBcoins as a member of the audience?

    (comment below threshold)

Not all comments with a negative score are useless. There are some cases where herd mentality will bury someone's thoughtful critique of something that is assumed to be good. Case in point, I've told some folks following Satoshi's funds on the blockchain is a waste of time. Being a spectator with most of your resources doesn't contribute to the community. I immediately had a negative score on reddit.

    (add value)

This will be hard, but I think up and down votes are too simplistic for good feedback. It would be nice to have other mechanisms that would correlate to badges. Like if a user always has a good handle on information they get a "brain bage". This could be triggered with a TIL (Things I learned) button or something similar

If a user is funny, which has theraputic benefits, any user who laughs at their comment clicks a jester button that would contribute to their "jester badge".

To make things more interesting the more folks click on jester or any more descriptive button related to a comment, the more that user can level up and be a level 3 jester or level 10 brainiac.

This would be far more useful than reddit's karma and may even allow for the system to dish out lower rewards for lower levels and reserve slightly higher rewards for those who have earned their high badge levels over time.

There also needs to be a badge for someone who finds a factual error or typo. This can help increase the quality of content and reward someone for their attention to detail.

    (other ways to mine)

There should be a reference id for those who share content on social networks. Any new listeners or readers that come into the network using a members share id should get them credit for expanding the network.

I think the commenting part will be hard to guard against gaming (like what happened to Digg). I'm not sure what metrics reddit uses, but link karma could be gamed (having swarms of sock puppets). What methods do you think can be used to combat this?

I've been thinking about creating a reddit-like system where everybody gets a few votes free per day but otherwise you can send LTB to it if you want more voice.

I agree with you on all of this, and that was one of the reasons I picked Vanillaforum to host our initial attempt. We should be able to integrate this into the system as a plugin with their API.

As far as "not all negative comments are useless" you know I agree with you on this

    How about 'proof of consumption'?

The listener is tipped a small amount of LTBcoin after they have listened to the whole episode. That might only be achieved if the person is listening via something like a web page with some sort of embedded player. The player would have limited controls so you couldn't just jump to the end. Who would want to skip through one of your episodes anyway ;-) ?

When the episode ends, a captcha is shown and upon successful verification some LTBcoin is credited to the listener.

I'm not sure if this can be gamed. However, this isn't something which just gives away free LTBcoin. There would be some useful statistical information to be gained about viewers...

The first design for LTBcoin was actually as a distribution mechanism, basically a combination crypto wallet with built in network torrent player. Basically listening (streaming) would be worth a small amount, serving (downloading and seeding) would be worth more and the whole thing is self balancing daily.

This is still on my radar but it is a bit more ambitious than I want to start off with. I do believe this technology might benefit from an infrastructure bounty.

I actually like the proof of consumption idea. People love it when they can do simple/easy tasks and get paid for it, even if its a tiny amount of money. Like at EarnFreeBitcoins.com, (one of my sites), users must spend at least a couple minutes (about 1 - 3) visiting a sponsored website, and in return they get credited a very small amount of BTC, which eventually builds up into a payment to their wallet. People absolutely eat this kind of stuff up. Like were talking 150,000 + people in the past 2 months alone and thats just from my service, there are dozens of other similar sites and faucets kicking around.

Another good one is affiliate programs. Advertise the site and bring in new readers/listeners/community members, and then receive a small amount of LTBC for your efforts.

I like the idea of affiliate programs a bunch, hadn't thought about it in an audience acquisition capacity.

I'm involved with the development of a project that basically abstracts mining and localizes the competition. You might understand what I mean by that or not, but I think it will be a big deal and intend to be an early user of the tech in a LTB "viewing room"

How about rewarding listeners for sharing episodes on Facebook/Twitter/G+?
