  • Re: IFTTT Chain Channel

    @shopnhowler @therealtwig This is exciting indeed! Or, it feels like there's a lot that we could do with this but I don't send bitcoin all too often to the point that automating it would be useful. Another way to put it is, if I buy bitcoin periodically there's no trigger and if I sell bitcoin for a purchase (like through overstock.com) there's no trigger for the purchase either. Do you have any ideas in mind?

    Well looking at this more, the only supported triggers are currently to do an action whenever bitcoin is sent or received from a particular address, or when a certain bitcoin price is reached.

    I would agree about not seeing a point to this if you don't normally see action with bitcoin on a regular basis. However, one trigger I thought could be pretty useful is one for my LTBc address to see when funds have been added to it on the blockchain. Of course, all I would be able to see is the dust amount of BTC added to the address and not the particular counterparty asset that has been added. But, I'd like to think about it as sort of a push notification to check my counterwallet because something has just been put into it.

    With that functionality in mind, this particular IFTTT trigger would be sort of a vanilla version of the EmailMe service @deweller recently launched, but without the bonus of being able to see your exact counterwallet balance. You could also extend it to not just send an e-mail, but a SMS, or perhaps an automated tweet saying "W00t!!! I received LTB coin today!"

  • IFTTT Chain Channel

    I don't know how many of you out there use IFTTT, but it is a pretty cool app that allows you to create your own custom logic commands to let your apps interact with one another. For instance, "If the forecast is rain tomorrow, send me a SMS."

    I don't know if anyone else here is using this app, but perhaps this news just might sway you to that direction. just saw on their blog that IFTTT is now supporting blockchain logic commands through their "Chain Channel" API, essentially allowing you to keep track of any BTC you send or receive, monitor blockchain transactions, keep tabs of the price of bitcoin, and quite possibly more. I haven't dug into the API yet, but I wonder if this could be leveraged to also keep track of Counterparty or other meta protocol assets? Getting very excited here thinking of all the awesome commands I could create on my phone with this!

  • Re: Open Discussion on Forum Rules, Spam and Post Quality

    @thewittyhawk

    I like the idea but at the same time I think it would create too much of a barrier for new people. If I had to jump through a bunch of hoops just to join it takes away from the (at least in my mind) purpose of LTBc. While it would help weed out some of the spam, all listeners should have an equal opportunity to get LTBc no matter how long they have been listening.

    I think it is a delicate balance and whatever system is in place should not hinder people from wanting to be a part of the network. This is why I suggested offering LTBc as a reward for such a educational questionnaire, perhaps equivalent to what a person would have earned anyway in LTBc from posting junk posts. No matter what, I think incentivizing the right behavior is key, and completely agree with your points about wanting to create equal opportunities.

  • Re: Open Discussion on Forum Rules, Spam and Post Quality

    @jayek

    @cryptonaut Hey guys

    I think its time to start up a discussion on what some general rules/policies for the forums should be and the best ways to deal with spam and the increasingly no-value posts (not really adding anything to the conversation). Seems like more and more people just posting nonsense like "Cool thread!" and "I agree" etc.

    What do you guys think some policies should be?

    Also make sure to flag any spammy posts that you come across

    Could we also require forum members to have an avatar? Shows a minimum amount of effort to participate.

    I think this could even go one step further. There are some sites I am aware of, like Taskrabbit, that require people performing small tasks to answer a series of hypothetical questions correct about those tasks before going out on the job.

    Just brainstorming here, but would there be a way to perhaps require a user to answer some questions correct about LTB before being able to actually create a post? Maybe an orientation of sorts on the "do's and don'ts" of posting? These could also be somewhat random and diverse questions about the ecosystem and almost serve as another educational tool for people looking to get involved with the LTBn.

    Maybe someone can't post until they reach a certain threshold with the questionnaire. When they do, they could receive LTBc for their efforts.

    Thoughts?

  • Re: Adding "fuel" to the Counterwallet and Dogeparty wallet

    @loon3 I think this would most certainly add to the UX. Anything that makes this process clearer to the user is a huge win IMO. Would you just envision the fuel gauge as part of the bitcoin/dogecoin tile?

    I remember on the forums here a while back a user(can't remember who) saying they had a goal for a certain amount of LTBc to accumulate before they sold it off for Bitcoin. I could see part of the UX maybe being a fuel gauge for each token with a custom user set upper limit for any desired Token/Asset pairing. So, perhaps a gauge below LTBc that has its "full" set to 1 BTC, or any amount of BTC or any other token the user declares. Maybe clicking on the fuel gauge could even tell the user how long at their current rate of accumulation it would take to meet their goal.

    I think this has a lot of potential, and would love to see something like this implemented!

  • Re: LTBn value per user

    @akinale my average network value per user 31$? Or I don't understand....

    The average network value is just saying, take the total market value of all the LTBc currently in existence ($64,000ish...comes from $0.0007*91,593,271LTBc out there) divided by the amount of total registered users on the site (2,024 currently), and BAM, you have an estimated dollar amount per user.

    It is just a very cool metric that tracks a dollar amount value per individual on the network.

    @loon3 does a very good job of outlining this on his site as well. Very cool idea to display this data @loon3! Would be very cool to chart all this as well to determine trends over time!

  • Re: AUCTION VENDING MACHINES ARE NOW OPERATIONAL

    Very, very cool! I also love the idea of the bounty you must pay on top of bid to secure it. A interesting way to incentivize the bidding process. Great job guys!

  • Re: Quite discouraging

    @cryptonaut Writing quality articles that get published on our front page is probably the biggest way by far

    I would add to this that while:

    I will need over 2 million LTBC to make $2000.

    It truly is the value that you add to the network that will make that exchange rate better for everyone in the future. Perhaps its bringing more traffic to the site by recommending friends. Or, brainstorming a host of LTBc applications that others have not thought of yet to make the idea of owning LTBc more valuable than getting rid of it.

    @sbatz72 , I am encouraged by how much value you are going to add to the network in the future!

  • Re: Jeffrey Tucker on Episode 134

    There are two items that really stuck out to me.

    One was the Wright brothers spending their lives fighting intellectual right patent battles and as a result indirectly stunting the innovation level in flight of the county far back of what others were able to do with permissionless innovation on top of what they were able to accomplish.

    I also really thought Andreas had a wonderful discussion about how something so amazingly neutral can be seen as a revolution just because it is introduced into a context of deceit and bias. His example of Galileo effectively bringing down empires just by putting two pieces of glass on the end of a tube and making simple observations of truth was pretty cool and thought provoking.

    Great episode!
