Re: [Help] Date/Time ??
That is the system time (PDT). Don't worry about it when posting articles. Your editor will set it to the right date and time when publishing.
Ok, never mind.
Your editor will set it to the right date and time when publishing.
Editor??
Do you mean every blog post need approval??
Yes indeed! Here are the full instructions and details.
@cryptonaut, we should put up some basic info and the above link on the "Add Post" page.

Re: Thinking of Spamming the Forums? Consider Yourself Warned!
I don't remember what posts I warned the Italian community in. It could have been just that one time. Doesn't matter. I'm not your school teacher or policeman. ;)
Also, I didn't mention the Italian board to single you out. Sorry if it came across that way. The Spanish board is the only other one I can understand and it is relatively quiet from what I've seen. From the spam reports we've been getting, it looks like many of the other language boards have their own share of crap.
Ideally, we would find a way for foreign language boards to elect their own mods and police themselves. @cryptonaut @adam, and everyone else: thinking caps on!
The problem is that it is hard to make sure that it all works well and runs fairly when you don't understand the language, and frankly we'd rather spend our time building cool stuff than on police patrol. This issue will partly sort itself out as the foreign communities grow and certain members earn trust with the rest of the LTB community. It's up to you guys to prove yourselves.
There is a "Flag/Report" button on every post. When the community is big enough, I see how that could work as a downvote in reddit, and posts with negative votes would be considered as spam. However, right now, proper spam might not get enough downvotes while it would be easy for spammers to game the system and blacklist legitimate posts. Again, small-community problems.

Re: Thinking of Spamming the Forums? Consider Yourself Warned!
@bcohen @rotalumis there shouldn't be (IMHO) non-english forums unless articles on the LTB platform are written in those languages. How do we know that these non-english threads have anything meaningful to say?
well one could use http://translate.google.com
I've actually tried to go on some of these threads and start a conversation using Google translate. THe conversation was a non-starter.
Then watch the nonsense ESL (maybe we should call it GESL ---Google English Second Language) posted on the english speaking forums.
Brian
Ideally, we would have a number of trusted mods for each language, but that's probably not a practical thing to do or police right now.
The alternative I see is to keep the foreign boards (because they can be genuinely useful) but exclude them from the PoP scheme. Some of the foreign boards I can understand can get very bad. The Italians in particular were jokingly referring to each other as "spammoni", or spammers, and I warned them a couple times.
I'd like to hear @adam and the community's opinion on this, though.
I know some will say it's not fair, but it's probably not fair in a "some idiots cut down all the trees so now there are no trees for anyone" kind of way.

Re: Wondering about Status of My Post
Basically, there's quite a bit of an editing backlog for a number of reasons, starting from the fact that the system is new and we still have very few editors, to summer and people taking breaks here and there, to a huge influx of posts of varying quality (from spam upwards).
We're working on better editing incentives that will hopefully allow us to attract some more serious editing talent, and we're also hashing out a system to deter spam and sub-par submissions. All that also takes up our time.
Your post has still to be reviewed and entered into the editing system. Once an editor picks it up and works on it and decides it is ready to go, we'll adjust the date and it will show up on the home page as you said. All that, provided it meets the basic LTB quality standards or it is close enough that we can work with you to get it there.
Thanks for your patience. We really are laying down the tracks as we ride on them, so the road can be a bit bumpy at times.

Re: Thinking of Spamming the Forums? Consider Yourself Warned!
@rotalumis ....
That's very easy to implement, and we can make it as harsh as necessary.
This subjectivity.
Who decides?
By what criteria?
The results we want to achieve will set the criteria. If the penalty is not harsh enough to deter spam, it will have to be increased. Repeat spammers could get bigger penalties on successive occasions. There are lots of ways we could tweak the system.

Thinking of Spamming the Forums? Consider Yourself Warned!
Spam is starting to get out of control and people are posting very low quality stuff to quickly "get their 10 posts in". (See discussion here.)
Here's what we're going to do:
Posts that get flagged and deleted will get you NEGATIVE Proof of Participation and a loss of LTBc. That's very easy to implement, and we can make it as harsh as necessary. It could even carry over to following weeks and lower your future rewards. There is no excuse for spam.
We might make a post about this when it's up, or we might not. Anyone who is posting spam or useless posts like "me too" or "wow thats cool", consider yourself warned.
The same thing goes for those posting silly threads, or threads that are off-topic.
This measure will reduce spam and leave more LTBc for those who post genuinely good comments.

Re: Which includes the article Proof of Quality (PoQ) ?
@eshriek Proof of Quality happens when your post goes through the process of draft, ready to publish, to published. You are awarded proof of quality when it is published. You are awarded proof of value later. Proof of quality is all or none. Proof of value depends on how many views/comments/likes your post receives over the course of about 1 month.
Yes. This is it. PoV is over 4 weeks, to be exact.
With Proof of Quality, the stress is on the quality. We're seeing so much spam and very low quality articles coming in that we are contemplating an LTBc fee for submissions or a deposit that you lose if you haven't put in a proper effort before you set your article to "Ready for Publishing". People who don't have LTBc would be able to submit through a broker who pre-checks their article and takes on the risk of putting up the coin.
That's not something I would do in an ideal situation, but we need to find a way to avoid the editors wasting too much time.
Anyway, we're still discussing options.

Re: Open Discussion on Forum Rules, Spam and Post Quality
We've just been discussing that posts that get deleted will get you NEGATIVE PoP and a loss of LTBc. That's very easy to implement.
We might make a post about it when it's up, or we might not. Let anyoneone who is spamming consider themselves warned.
