Hey guys

I think its time to start up a discussion on what some general rules/policies for the forums should be and the best ways to deal with spam and the increasingly no-value posts (not really adding anything to the conversation). Seems like more and more people just posting nonsense like "Cool thread!" and "I agree" etc.

What do you guys think some policies should be?

Also make sure to flag any spammy posts that you come across

edit: a draft of the rules and policies can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1m62cFEqgiRVC0OKS5lvPJhIbRI_Z2v2OGPGN98WbKh0/edit?usp=sharing

I noticed that @hesham3del has the power (I think) to close threads that are not productive. I've thought about simply calling his attendtion to similar threads. On the other hand, I feel it could be a bit draconian and it would be putting extra workload on @hesham3del (though I don't think he would mind).

A privilege system, like stackoverflow, would be nice. Based on the amount of LTBC you have received, you would have the ability to close a thread etc.

I think this is the way the forum is heading, no?

At first, I want to thank you for having my attention and writing this reply.

Yes, I've the power to close threads, but just a small clarification, I'm not a Mod., I'm a Helper, I've less privileges than a Mod.

This won't be any extra work for me, at all. As I like my family here and I feel this as my home.

Your talking about the number of LTBc received and becoming a Helper/Mod., is partially for sure taken into consideration, but there are more factors as well which I don't know about.

    Thank you :)

Were all the messages here deleted by the people who created them or some one else? I don't see any actual discussion going on.

@davidareallen Can Deleted messages NOT show up at all?

I would also like the ability to disable the viewing of deleted messages.

I think @davidallen s message was deleted. I guess you could say a deleted message won't show up at all ... unless it is quoted before it is deleted:-)

Could we also require forum members to have an avatar? Shows a minimum amount of effort to participate.

I think this could even go one step further. There are some sites I am aware of, like Taskrabbit, that require people performing small tasks to answer a series of hypothetical questions correct about those tasks before going out on the job.

Just brainstorming here, but would there be a way to perhaps require a user to answer some questions correct about LTB before being able to actually create a post? Maybe an orientation of sorts on the "do's and don'ts" of posting? These could also be somewhat random and diverse questions about the ecosystem and almost serve as another educational tool for people looking to get involved with the LTBn.

Maybe someone can't post until they reach a certain threshold with the questionnaire. When they do, they could receive LTBc for their efforts.

    Thoughts?

    I think

some people need to be lifted moderator

maybe 1 or 2 moderators in every sub forum

who has the authority to delete comments and lock the tread and stiky

I like the idea but at the same time I think it would create too much of a barrier for new people. If I had to jump through a bunch of hoops just to join it takes away from the (at least in my mind) purpose of LTBc. While it would help weed out some of the spam, all listeners should have an equal opportunity to get LTBc no matter how long they have been listening.
