@maygor It seems an excellent project with brilliant devs involved. But I feel concerned about its network effect...

When you say network effect, do you mean the impact Ethereum will have on the overall cryptocurrency network? Or the "network effect", referring to the idea of how bitcoin was the first major cryptocurrency and can be expected to gain the most users because of it's first mover advantage and has the most users?

I mean that bitcoin (the block chain) has the most users and the most active community.

So when you say you are concerned about the network effect, you mean that you are concerned that Etherium might negatively impact on the Bitcoin community?

No I don't think so. I think ethereum might be better but not necessarily most adopted block chain technology.

    • They have received quite a lot of investment from VC's who will seek returns that may follow a KYC/AML whitelististing/blacklisting model in order to expand into legitimacy.

This is not correct. As far as I know, they have not received ANY external funding - everything is being done through the pre-sale. If a VC wants to get in, they will need to fund with bitcoin and buy ether the same as everyone else.

When purchasing your ETH be sure that you have an https secure connection otherwise you may encounter problems during the process of your purchase. I had to cancel twice because it locked up on me then I noticed I did not have a secure connection. After establishing a secure connection the process went smoothly. I am running a macbook pro osx 10.9.4 Chrome browser. Apparently they were having issues with the firefox browser but they may have fixed that by now. I hope someone finds that useful.

Great point, also I heard there was some scamming attempts via twitter using shortners to lure investors so be sure THE ONLY PLACE to purchase ether is https://www.ethereum.org

Indeed - the one twitter ethereum scammer that I saw had their account taken down, but there certainly will be others. Beware!

I'm on the fence. I've been to the site several times but haven't decided yet. Perhaps not having access to my counter wallet and BTC is a sign lol.

I will definitely buy some ETH, if nothing else because I think Vitalik Buterin is one of the most brilliant men in the cryptocurrency space, since his first articles in "the Bitcoin magazine", he has really been one of the most visionary thinkers in this space with the drive to make all his visions reality. I think what he and the Ethereum team has accomplished this far and all the documentation has been outstanding. I see it as a great honor to be able to support this fantastic work towards a decentralized human civilization. If it gives me a long term economic return that would be nice, if not that's fine.
