@kerneloops @RobMitchell
Sorry for the thread drift, but you by chance surf with brothers Carpenter?
I would ask such question via PM if there was one available, ahem, @adam :-)
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… yeah…
If you're a psychic, I'm very impressed!

Started looking into btc in February of 2013. I'm not a trained techie so my learning curve was steep. I started a little mining and then was a reseller and finally a manufacturer of the small USB miners. All on the side of course. Ended up being some significant income last year and early this year. But when I am not doing that I keep up with bitcointalk.org, new btc friends I have made around the world and listening to podcasts. It can be an all consuming hobby. But I have to believe we all have vision that most do not have today. I guess we'll see.
@coinfire
@jshow5555 Big % of my time too.
What sort of things are you doing with that time? Looking up prices? Researching and reading? The news? Forums? All of the above?
All of the above, not in that order though - looking at prices takes the least time for me.
Yeah, some people mistakenly (I think) obsess over the price for bitcoin.
I would rather think about the things people are doing with it, buying and selling services and products personally :)
It's hard to gauge how much time because Bitcoin and related tech really spreads across so many diverse. Monetary policy, Finance, Money supply, financial markets, Hierarchical v. distributed systems, cryptography, computer hardware, mathematics, privacy, and on and on. Bitcoin has definitely rekindled a many of my old interests and sparked a few new ones. Studying bitcoin really is it's own specialized liberal arts education.
It's really interesting to talk to other bitcoiners who, like myself have spent considerable time researching, yet their knowledge base is very different from mine. Someone may know a lot about mining hardware while bitcoiner next to him is an expert in cryptography. They both fancy themselves bitcoin experts yet they have totally different non-overlapping knowledge sets.
@jayek I'd have to agree with that. My wife made a point of asking if I've noticed it lately. I listen to podcasts on let's talk bitcoin, research alt coins, spend time on Reddit & bitcointalk. I guess it's a bit more than a hobby. I'll even accept photographic work for bitcoin these days.
That is pretty cool! Are you working on doing photographic work for LTBcoin yet? ;)

I wouldn't turn LTBcoin down. I'll shoot for a variety of coins, LTBcoin is certainly included. Photo work http://jaykopinski.com
@grandma Bitcoin is a good obsession.
I couldn't agree with this statement more. Do you feel the other cryptocurrencies are worth some of your time as well?

Absolutely. There isn't just one FIAT currency in this world and there isn't just one precious metal. There is something for everyone and diversity is a good thing. Cryptocurrency is an evolving beast all of it's own and I think there is plenty of room for innovation with successful new currencies. I like to think there is but one true block chain, but even bitcoin has a seperate testnet blockchain. That is a separate currency and it has real value, even if that value is only in the form of the knowledge you can gain from it.
@coinfire
@coinfire Howdy,
It certainly seems that when you first learn about Bitcoin you have to spend a lot of time learning about Bitcoin, and then you become sucked in to Bitcoin.
I think that suggesting one is "sucked in" is quite misleading.
When I learned of Bitcoin it was yet-another-interesting-tech-thing until about 6 months later May of last year, when I realized I wanted to know a lot more. I started to research in my spare time, and then taking time from my regular schedule to explore more possibilities, until about 1.5 months ago when I determined Bitcoin would be my working life focus.
I still feel like I am in preparation mode for many things that are yet to come, and basic education in the changing Bitcoin world is essential for those of us who are dedicated to mainstream adoption.
How or where I make, or spend, my time and money is normally a personal conversation, but I can understand why you might want to know. I make time by being as physically fit as possible with exercise and diet. I make my income by providing value to those who see the value. See DAVACOIN for more info.

Getting sucked in isn't necessarily a bad thing though :)
You are correct, no one has to answer any of these questions for sure. It is just interesting to see what people do have to say though regarding it.
Just checked out DAVACOIN and that is a really cool idea with potential for other applications as well.
Instead of selling shares in a company or an idea you are literally selling shares in yourself and that indeed is an interesting concept!
Yes. I got sucked into Rock and Roll in 1959 and I can't image what kind of a dull life I would have led for the past 5 decades if I hadn't. You are correct, Coinfire. Getting sucked in can be a good thing!
Send me a private mail at [email protected] because I can't find a PM function on this forum.
I would like to discuss with you "potential for other applications" that have been rattling around in my head.
If Counterparty was a bit faster I would have all the MARBLES and all the PEANUTS by now "-)
I am adding sending you an email to my to-do list right now! I hope I can get to it in the next few hours but the way things just keep coming it might be a day or so.
I'm excited to talk with you further about it!
Bitcoin Anonymous is a must! :) Repeat with me everyone...hi my name is___ and I am addicted to Bitcoin. physically I spend about 10-20% of my time reading or researching about bitcoin or related topics but I feel like my thought process is dominated by it. I try to relate every aspect of life not really to bitcoin so much but to consensus algorithms. I have to admit, I check the price at least once a day as well.
