I actually prefer an auction draft. I did it for the first time in a league last year and in my opinion it's a lot fairer since everyone starts off on equal footing and you can bid on any player you want. I can live with a snake draft if that's what everyone else wants to do, but I recommend doing a couple mock auction drafts on Yahoo if you're hesitant about it and have never done one.

Auction works well for me too! I suggested snake because it is generally the kindest to all levels of experience with fantasy football, but as you said, auction has a lot of cool strategy and can be just a blast for drafting!

If we did do auction, would we also have FAAB$ (Free Agent Acquisition Bucks) for acquiring free agents during the regular season? For those that don't know, FAAB$ are used in a weekly silent auction to acquire free agents during the regular season. So instead of a "first come first serve" system for free agents, all league owners have a budget to start out the year with funds (say 200 FAAB$) to acquire free agents. When you spend all your FAAB$, you cannot participate in the weekly auctions any more and have to hope a free agent you wanted to pick up slipped through the auction. I think FAAB may be standard in yahoo auction leagues, but I am not 100% sure.

If we did roll out FAAB, something fun that could also influence auction draft strategy is that unused draft $ get rolled over into a teams FAAB$ for the season. So if I didn't want to use up all my auction draft dollars in the hopes of overbidding for a hot shot free agent during the year that came out of nowhere, I could have a conservative draft strategy. Vice versa if I didn't believe free agents was a good way to build my team during the regular season.

    Thoughts?

  • Heads Up...Introduction to Linux Class Starting Soon

I am not sure if edX is on anyone's radar, but is essentially a collection of MOOCS from prestigious universities ranging from Harvard to MIT. I have used edX before for several courses and have had nothing but positive experiences.

Their model is that anyone can audit any course for free, but to receive a verified certificate, you make a nominal donation to edX (usually around $50) at the beginning of the course to incentivize your completion.

As a heads up to the community, starting next Friday, edX is offering its very first class in Linux. I believe this is usually something that costs quite a large sum of money if you are looking to do this outside of edX, and therefore a really good deal. I think I am going to join, just thought I would throw this out to others in case there was some interest!

  • Re: QUIZCOIN.XCP

    @crimsonroze Very cool!

What will be the format of the quiz walks? The brainwallet kind like in LTB129 or something custom and left entirely up to the person setting up the walk?

@mikerbiker6 How is crystal clear a fail? It is my favourite drink

I mean, yea....how doesn't it look anything but thirst quenching!!! ;)

  • Re: Most famous person you've met IRL?

Hulk Hogan. In an airport, while still in old school Hulkamania days (1990). And yes, he was in full hulk gear, even in the airport.

  • Re: Wont the giving away of coins cause a downwards pattern in coin value?

@armin22 I have been wondering that if you are giving away coins for free like this, then won't all the selling cause a downwards slope in the coins value from all the dumping?

(Also my counterwallet message wont get signed.)

Others can correct me if I am wrong, but as a holder of LTBc, I feel as though I am actually de-incentivized to sell right now. To see more value out of this token, I am more than incentivized to hold and do as much as I can to help create value to the network to see the value of this token go up. Which I am happy to do anyways, but it is always nice to see value occur out of thin air for things I am already happy to do.

Selling now would only be a representation of its current early stage value, which in theory can only go up due to positive actions I (and many others) take to propagate the LTB network.

    and with the addition of

    @scipio @silvergoldandbitcoin @roadwarriors

This puts us at 14, which shouldn't be a problem.

I'm thinking a league fee of 10,000 LTBc per team which is right around $20. It's enough skin in the game for each manager to have incentive to remain active throughout the season. I also prefer a winner take all style as opposed to smaller payouts for 2nd and 3rd place but I'm open for discussion.

Let me know if the league fee is reasonable and I'll move forward with posting instructions on how this is all going to work.

I like the buy in but have a proposal for an addition to the buy in. I have been part of another fantasy league for the past several years where we really had to fight inactivity late, especially when owners had a poor record. Therefore, we instituted part of the buy in dedicated to a winner take all side pot for the highest scoring week of the season. Everyone has had incentive to win something, therefore everyone has put their best effort in each week since then, regardless of record.

How about a 10,000 + 5,000 LTBc buy in across 14 teams with the following payout distribution:

    • 130,000 LTBc to the winner.
    • 10,000 LTBc to the runner up (get your buy in back).
    • 70,000 LTBc to the owner that has the highest scoring week during the fantasy regular season.

There, of course, will need to be more discussion over type of league....auction or standard. My vote honestly would be standard snake draft (ABCDDCBA...etc), standard scoring in a head-to-head league with the following positions:

    • QB
    • RB
    • RB
    • WR
    • WR
    • FLEX
    • K
    • DST
    • BENCH X6

    What do you guys think?

@y0c0ins I wish there was a way to hold LTB in personal cold storage. :(

    There is!

  • Re: TIL....CAPTCHA and Proof of Human

@cryptonaut I didnt really get the whole proof of human thing on that episode TBH. Kind of just sounded like the guy had no real idea of what he was doing or how we was actually going to implement it, and just writing a "whitepaper" about his idea.

captchas have been around for quite a while now, most sites use them.. its not a sure fire way to tell a person and computer apart though, there are a lot of them that can be cracked by bots

I agree about the end of this episode, I had a really hard time following along with the description of the concept and agree with your thoughts. However, the idea of proof of human kind of sat with me and got me thinking about why something like that would be useful and how could you even possibly implement something like it.

I think I possibly have an idea of why something proof of human would be useful, but am still working on understanding how. Later in the paper I linked to earlier, the author(s) mentioned something called "stealing cycles from humans" as a way to defeat captchas. So, someone that wants to defeat a captcha could just reroute that captcha to an actual human that needs to solve it for some kind of reward. This paper was written in 2000, so I am not sure if this is actually a thing people still do to solve captchas, but what they then go on to say later in the article is honestly a pretty cool idea and got me thinking.

They throw out the idea of an application of "stealing a human cycle" as a web application that tells you what is the best haircut for you, though they use an outdated app called "hot or not" as a way to do so. However, in a distributed system with "proof of human," perhaps it could be.

A user could for instance upload a head shot picture and place on it several different ideas for haircuts and they submit to a server. These images could be put together as one and sent out to actual human voters as a captcha in a distributed system where they participate in voting on what they believe the best image is. Their incentive to prove they are human and vote by solving the captcha could perhaps represent a nominal amount of the token that represents user fees for using the system. If a human were to ever then find a way to "bot" the system, then it would be made obvious to all because of higher "solve" rates in the system and the "difficulty" of solving that captcha could be changed in some way to level the playing field again.

I don't know if something like this is even feasible. Like many other things with cryptocurrency, just fun to go on a thought experiment, I suppose!

  • TIL....CAPTCHA and Proof of Human

I have been very interested since the last podcast about proof of human and possible applications/implications. I happened upon this article this morning from Carnegie Mellon and this eye opener:

The acronym is a mouthful: CAPTCHA stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart". The P for Public means the code and the data used by a CAPTCHA should be publicly available. Thus, a program that can generate and grade tests that distinguish humans from computers, but whose code or data are private is not a CAPTCHA

First, am I the only one here who had no idea CAPTCHA was an acronym for something? Guess I always took it for granted before. Felt like sudden clarity Clarence.

Second, the tail end of that quote is pretty interesting. The idea that a program that can generate such tests but whose code or data are private is not considered a CAPTCHA. This paper was written long before blockchain technology was available. I wonder if this could be one of the first killer applications of something like an ethereum.
