  • Re: Adam, Nick and Devon, you've been nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge!

    @cherapple

    No, but there's predictably been quite a bit of talk on Reddit about getting them to do so, including a Twitter drive by BitPay.

  • Adam, Nick and Devon, you've been nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge!

    @adam, @deweller, @cryptonaut, I nominate you to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to help raise funds, awareness and hope.

    If anyone thinks the Ice Bucket Challenge is pointless, or a waste of anything, please read this. Thank you.

    @crimsonroze

    @meadefreling When is the moderation going to be ready ?

    @rotalumis are you the right person to answer this question?

    Forum moderation? We already have that working at a basic level.

    If you mean user curation for blog posts, I don't think we can commit to specific time-frames at this point. The first step is the new editing platform that will be a great start at decentralizing editing and distributing the load. That is planned for some time in October as far as I know. @Cryptonaut can confirm/comment.

    @rotalumis [DUPLICATE POST

    What do you really mean by duplicate post.

    I posted the same thing three times cos I was using bad wifi and the page wasn't updating when I posted.

  • Re: LTBc plugin for regular forums and social media platforms.

    @page

    Not concrete plans -- we're still at an early and experimental stage -- but they has been a fair bit of thought and discussion. There's also an argument for using different tokens for different things. It's hard to foresee how it will all play out.

    I share Adam's sentiment here, quoted below, (check out the rest of the thread too if you like). We only have one shot to get it right.

    @adam

    Because there's no do-overs, and it would be good if we understood the ramifications of what we're doing before we try to "sell it" to anyone.

    I agree that we don't need to manage adoption. How could we do that anyway in a free market where anyone can do what they want with their tokens?

    @beniamino

    @rukilang How much LTBCoin can i get per posting ?

    Is there any reward for posting.

    @catlinhappy Please cant we see anybody to answer beniamino question.

    The answer to beniamino's question is in the instructions in the original post. ;-)

    There are no "fixed rates", rather you earn a share based on your contribution of the new Content tokens created the week you publish.

  • Re: LTBc plugin for regular forums and social media platforms.

    @page A bigger platform than here that clones LTBc and exclusively uses that coin for their own site will not be the coin that becomes dominant over the long run within this sector. That thinking is insular and puts an limit on the coin's utility.

    I never said a bigger platform would use their token exclusively. I should have been clearer and emphasized that a bigger platform would have the brand recognition to get their token widely used and accepted from day 1.

    @irnhnve What are your thoughts on selling a license that allowed site owners to implement an LTBc API or plugin that needed to be renewed using LTBc? They could create their own token and reward their users in that token but renewals could only be done in LTBc.

    In the same spirit of Bitcoin, the LTB code was open sourced this week under the name of Tokenly and licensed under GPL V2.0. The idea is that we would be able to benefit from improvements people make and adopt them if we like them.

    @page The idea behind LTBc is great, but, for me, flawed if it is subservient to the LTB platform. A media platform is not where the genius lies, it's the token system itself and particularly the idea of Proof of Participation. Getting the largest number of people interested during Proof of Participation seems the absolute key for the success of the coin to me. I think @adam is making a big mistake in putting his focus on the LTB platform primarily.

    You're missing the wood for the trees there and probably should check out the original LTBcoin idea as a way to bootstrap the LTB community using a token that gains value through the contributions of the users themselves.

    Yes, spam is a problem, but we're actively fighting it already and improving the systems we currently have to deal with it. We need a flag/report topic option to go with flag post. In the meantime if you pm any threads that are not about Let's Talk Bitcoin! or related topics to me (@rotalumis) or @cryptonaut, we'll make them go whoosh! and people won't earn any coin for them at the end of the week.

    Indeed, the genius is in the token system. However, the token is not an end unto itself (again, see the above link). That would make it just another pump-and-dump altcoin in my opinion.

    And a huge problem I see with prematurely getting LTBc used on a larger platform is that if they decided to drop LTBc for their own coin at any time, the value would crash and the whole project would likely be dead in the water. It would probably be better to get LTBc adopted on lots of little sites first, rather than one huge site with the same total users - not putting all your eggs in one basket and all that.

    Growth and increase in value needs to be organic as much as possible. The best thing you can do to make your LTBc gain value is to contribute value to the community and offer your services in exchange for LTBc.

    That's my 2c, anyway.

    @hesham3del

    What advantage we are having as first movers brother ?

    I would like as well to take this oppertunity to ask you, how do you see the future of LTBn and LTBc but from two prespectives, as a member in the LTB member and as a out of the team normal member/observer.

    Thank you.

    The first-mover advantage is a slight one. It can't stop a larger community like reddit deciding to create their own coin that has a larger userbase (as it appears they will do). With that said, the value of LTBcoin depends primarily on its use as the exclusive token of the LTB network, which offers people certain niche things that other communities like reddit don't.

    I'm not sure how you want me to take two perspectives on the future of the LTBn and LTBc. The success of both relies on community members working to provide value to that same community. This is why it is important to build great stuff that attracts a solid and loyal userbase and set the right incentives for members to do the same.

    @page If we create a plugin that works with tumblr, for example, then maybe we will have an extra 500,000 people interested in LTBc all wanting to show they are participating.

    The question is why would Tumblr use LTBc instead of creating TumblrCoin and controlling the distribution themselves? I think something like that might only happen when LTBc has reached critical mass.

    Awarding LTBc on lots of smaller websites could be a possibility because they might not have the resources to create and manage their own coin, but then you're probably risking the growth of the LTB network at such an early stage. This is probably an argument for us creating MediaCoin in parallel with LTBc, which could very well happen.

  • Re: LTBc plugin for regular forums and social media platforms.

    It doesn't really make that much sense in awarding LTBc to people for using other sites right now because we want to build the community over here. Tipping LTBc to users of other sites is different and @deweller is working on a tipping service that will probably do that eventually.

    We did have quite a bit of discussion in the early days about whether we should call it LTBcoin or go for a more-general name like MediaCoin straight away, with the idea that it would eventually be used on other sites. In the end, we decided to start small, keeping in mind that one thing could morph into the other.

    The LTB code is open source, so there is also the possibility that someone else could just pick it up and use it. So far, we have some advantage as first movers, though.
