  • Re: WordPress & Genesis Framework Help, Questions, Consulting

    @kerneloops I think the LTB CMS is completely home-brew, no ties to WordPress or anything else. @cryptonaut confirm?

    correct. I think OP is looking to help out other peoples wordpress sites as opposed to developing for the LTB platform.

    @bitsking

    @mike I'm sorry to hear that. I'm also sorry that you had to sign up the LetsTalkBitcoin in order to receive "free" LTBc. I'm also sorry that you had to download software and register your wallet and expose it to the internet in order to obtain and hold bitcoin. Just sayin' :P

    Letstalkbitcoin didn't ask me for my facebook details neither did my current bitcoin wallet ask me for my facebook account. Just sayin :)

    agreed. signing up for an account on a site with w/e details you want is different then being forced to link your real life identity in order to sign up for said account

  • Re: SJCX.XCP - Storj

    @super3 Well its seems you got everyone's attentions by distributing SJCX. Might want to time it with the release of the Storj episode, and give it out to LTB users.

    sure, send me a PM or email maybe

  • Re: https

    @mdw @cryptonatu agree, that's why I suggested .bit as a backup only, we would lose most viewers by abandoning the .com in favor of ONLY .bit at this time.

    Don't really agree about the degree to which HTTPS protects against hackers though. It is somewhat better protection, since it's all encrypted. I just cringe a bit when people equate HTTPS with being secure against malicious javascript or people trying to steal passwords or hijack sessions or MITM attacks, etc. All demonstrably untrue.

    How so? From what I understand you would basically need to spoof yourself as the certificate authority, which you need to be physically close to your target in order to even attempt right?

  • Re: LTBc Faucet

    The biggest problem with faucets always come down to the transaction fees. Even worse with a counterparty asset faucet because you would have to send to each address individually, instead of just calling the "sendmany" command in bitcoind and sending to a bunch of people at once..

    Right now for our customized LTBcoin distributions we are paying about 0.00008 BTC per address, with a portion of that being technically recoverable (outputs that return to our addresses). Something to keep in mind

  • Re: Reddit looking to hire a cryptocurrency engineer

    @kerneloops

    @cryptonaut

    @kerneloops Right as I was about to say this is right up at @adam 's alley, I read his response/inquiry. I'm quite convinced Reddit is seeking an alt-coin mimicking what Adam and the LTB dev team have planned all along with LTBc. To which I say kudos!

    that would be awesome. maybe they will even do it on counterparty like us :p

    Im hoping for ability to pay for reddit ads with bitcoin (instead of just reddit gold), also built in site-wide tipping would be really cool

    Counterparty would seem like the obvious choice. If the plan is to launch a "redditcoin" what better way than slapping it on an already-proven platform like Counterparty? And even better, why don't we just go to Reddit and show them, look, what you are trying to accomplish is already available on LTBc, so why reinvent the wheel? Reddit adopts LTBc, price of LTBc explodes, I get my 911. Case closed.

    anyone in contact with the reddit admins? :D

  • Re: https

    @mdw Using HTTPS means people between you and the server cannot see the contents being sent back and forth, it is encrypted. It does not prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.

    It does offer slightly better protection from snooping parties, but you still must trust in a very untrustworthy system - digital certificates & CAs. Hate to say it but the benefits are slight in this case. Not very useful to waste your money supporting a broken X.509 certificate system.

    I would be delighted to assist with setting up a backup of this site on a .BIT domain. @adam is this domain yours? We can plan for a .p2p one as well if BitsharesDNS ever puts out their offering.

    I posted an article yesterday that's now being edited introducing this very topic. I am writing more even now. Tune in to read more about the political and technical issues around privacy, identity, security and censorship on the Internet today, and how blockchain technology can alleviate or solve many of the main issues.

    The certificate authority system might be broken.. assuming your also trying to keep totally private from the government and powerful corporations. HTTPS still protects you for the vast majority of use cases though (i.e, most hackers and script kiddies). Encrypting the data over the wire is vastly better then sending it all plaintext..

    .bit and similar domain systems would be great, but it would be kind of pointless at this stage since 99% of people that come to the site will have no idea about it or no way to even access it (your browser cant natively read info for .bit)

  • Re: https

    @jayek If anything https will allow me a way around my workplace firewall, so if even for that, please?

    how would it get around the firewall at your workplace?

  • Re: SJCX.XCP - Storj

    @super3 that sounds awesome!

    Distributions directly from counterwallet are disabled now for anyone with a IP address from the US... kind of a heated discussion right now about it in the counterparty skype chat room lol. You will need to use a VPN in order to get access to those features back.

    With the distribution system we use here at LTB, we send out each transaction individually to each address, so it works a bit differently than a normal dividend (e.g we send out based on site activity rather than how current coin/shares/token/whatever that you already have) but can also be a bit costly in fees depending on how many people you are sending to.

    Were you looking to distribute something to a set of specific addresses, or just to send out to all holders of SJCX (i.e like you would with the "pay distribution" button in counterwallet)? I can help you out with either method if you need. we have our own counterpartyd server that we can use for whatever - the IP blocking for americans is specific to counterwallet.co
