@prismicide can you elaborate on how its not actually secure?

When the first release was out, a friend of mine (prismicide co-founder) took a few hours and managed to extract the seed with a basic buffer overflow. At that time, there were no security. At all. We reported the problem and they fixed it.

After that, we met the founders in the Pragua launch party. They are friendly, the project is still nice... we don't want to blame them... they managed to create a nice small product from nearly nothing and nowhere but they simply don't understand much about secure architectures... We tried to convince them to use secure elements for a start (like we do in our own HW1 hardware wallet in www.hardwarewallet.com and like we'll do too in the next Bitcoin Pinpad project), but no luck for now.

Since then, we saw other security flaws... perhaps we'll found the time to make other reports, but we are focusing on other things right now. This project is nice but not very serious regarding security and I feel nearly no one except us challenged their architecture. (there should have been other reports, done by other people...) They should really ask other security experts to help them to audit and improve their security. It's better than nothing.

@prismicide interesting. If you end up having the extra time (or someone else), im sure the community in general would appreciate a more in depth report and explanation on TREZOR security (would make a good article for the front page)

I have a Trezor wallet. It works fine and handles the signing offline.

I am not a security expert and cannot comment on the security of the device.

However, it does seem to effectively guard against keyboard tracing when entering the pin and if you lose it you can restore your balance on another Trezor device by entering your 24-word key.

IF it works like they claim, it is a pretty damn neat little thing.

White hat hacker Johoe has a new post about Trezor insecurities: http://johoe.mooo.com/trezor-power-analysis

And if you haven't yet, check out my fairly exclusive podcast interview with Johoe, which took place after he grabbed and returned insecure Bitcoin on Blockchain.info wallets (saving it from the hands of less-kind hackers): https://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/the-bitcoin-game-7-bitcoin-hero-jochen-aka-johoe

That's a very interesting article. It is good to know that the vulnerability has been fixed, and that Johoe still considers hardware wallets to be the safest way to store bitcoins.

I have a Trezor wallet and I really like it. It is also very useful that other wallets, such as Mycelium, are able to interact with it.
