I have XCP and PTS/AGS. Looking to get into MSC and NXT, but not sure if it is worth at the current prices. Any thoughts on how MSC and NXT looks? Is MSC a direct competitor of XCP?

EDIT: Have got NRS too. Haven't looked into it but bought in simply 'coz Barwizi was doing it and he has been a very active and valuable member in both BTCtalk and BitSharestalk.

NXT has a fascinating problem/advantage in how decentralized they are.  They actually have lots of funds, but no real consensus for how to spend them.  They also just had their founder leave, and yet have some of the most advanced tech and deployments out there.  They traded layered security for global lightweight accessibility by not using a wallet.dat file and making all accounts inherently brainwallets.   They're a totally different tech from bitcoin, but so different that its been difficult for exchanges to deal with them
They're the biggest wild card in all of this, IMO.

^Cryptsy has now listed them too, so they are now on the most number of exchanges amongst these. PTS is on multiple exchanges too, but its as you say proto-2.0

The initial distribution is a big concern, and has spawned multiple topics/posts in BTCtalk. With huge stakeholders out there who are sitting on massive profits at current prices it makes one think about investing.

Yesterday I finally got around to buying some NXT, XCP and PTS, because I'm getting convinced that a successful 2nd gen crypto has a real chance of chopping away a good part of BTC's market share but also providing model and a platform for a whole new economy. I have no idea which one though. LTC and 1st gen clones are practically dead, so I'll probably dump it and get some MSC and ETR. Not sure about XRP, I have a lot from the bitcointalk giveaway. It seems to be brilliant tech, they just really botched their distribution/incentives model.

in fact, I believe funding/incentives model is the most important thing for long term prospects for a project, be it a cryptocurrency, a decentralized service or an open-source app .

On the one hand you've got the old open-source model, a'la colored coins or Open Transactions, where developers are working for free, hoping they'll be able to make money later by providing industrial support. This is a defunct model.

Then there's the croudfunding/IPO model, which has the advantage of funding initial development and jumpstarting the network effect for the product (investors are automatically users). There's a problem though: since investors are hungry for explosive disruption, vast amount of crypto capital flow to projects without a product or coherent idea, just a semi-competent team and a theoretical outline. Those projects are immediately overfunded at witch point there's no real incentive for newly-rich developers to continue working on it or hiring someone. If you can get tens of thousands of bitcoins upfront just for an idea, why even continue working on the product? For free??? I'm looking at you, mastercoin and ethereum.

A model that cracks the right incentives for initial funding - long term development - commercialization, will likely become default model for tech startups.

Can you explain eMunie to me?  I know they use hatchers instead of mining which basically is like collaborative mining, hatchers sign transactions and pass them on, and once everybody signs them it means they're accepted.  Why do you like it?  What do you think of the development team?  What do you think of the fundraiser as proposed?

I think EMunie is the bomb as it goes for creating a marketplace as opposed to creating a coin that is supposed to increase in value as more people buy into it. They are specifically designing the currency to start at a fixed value and keep at that value (or gentlely increasing it at 5% annually) though the use of sinks and faucets. There are a few other benefits

    1. Built-in encrypted chat built into the client.
    2. Vendor ratings on individuals from all purchase & sales.
    3. Anonymous transactions if requested.
    4. Direct cash to EMunie conversion is available through the creator.
    5. User created assets like most 2.0 platforms.

Of course because it can't be a pump and dump or will skyrocket like other currencies, the overall community could care less.

I am fine with the dev team, really it is the vision of one man and he is a perfectionist so it is taking forever. It is a different approach than others like counterparty released an alpha product and raised money. Emunie will be a complete product before they ask for money. Because of that I don't really mind the fundraiser because it isn't funding for development, it is initial funding for the environment to give it some life right off the bat.

Thanks for the explanation on eMunie.

I like some of the features of eMunie. However, as with any innovative currency that has its own code base, is under risk of bugs for the first year or two. If eMunie will stay at a constant price and not increase in value. What is the incentive for early adopters taking a risk on the currency? There is the interest rate, however that will drop down to 5% or so, after one year.

    I've got just AGS.
There are many new things out there. Invest in all of them is a best approach, but I have limited capital so I must choose. I decided to invest only in DACs that has its own blockchain and has insanely good deals for the first adopters.

If Mastercoin-like solution will be successful, then it will drive price of BTC up, so much safer to have just BTC.
For me BTC and AGS are a kind of diversified portfolio, but I plan to include Ether as well.

I like to have my eggs spread out in many baskets, so I have a little bit in a few rather than banking on the currently-most-successful one.
