    Cheers for the effort.

Adam, its interesting to hear that XCP is ahead of MSC at this point. From a cursory glance I expected MSC to be leading the race as it had an earlier start and lots of funds.

Adam you are so far ahead its almost been an elliptic curve. After tw.o months of listening to the LTB podcast in reverse I have finally caught up and I have to say that each one became progressively more interesting. No doubt due to your consistancy and effort made to cover all aspects of this new field

Adam, do you have plans to create a logo for the LTBcoin?  Sorry if this was already discussed.

Just a thought:  Run a contest for the LTB community to submit logo ideas.... you pick the winner ( or community picks the winner)  and is of course awarded some amount of LTBcoin..

    Best,

    Dale.

Is there a danger for a "hostile takeover" of LTBcoin if a competing network (CNN, etc) bought up all the LTBcons in circulation? Or 51% of the coins?

Speaking of spreading it out.... Is their a discussion on how issued assets should be handled as more of these metacoin (bitcoin 2.0) layer services appear on the scene? I've talked a bit about altcoin name clashing (i've had to deal with this personally) and I suppose this concern is relative here as well.
What happens if someone launches an LTBcoin on a different platform?
How well will these services loosely integrate?
How do we protect branding and IP? domain names are useless in this context.
Protoshares had to be renamed to PTS for similar reasons of trademark infringement. So do these new DAC assets need to be trademarked?
    Thoughts?

The more I read about this coin, the cooler I think it is.

I do have one concern, though, about the initial distribution.  You laid out in another thread the payout percentages to content creators, forum members, etc. and I have no problem with any of that.  My question is about the amount distributed in that first week; the Genesis Block as it were.  If (say) 100k LTBCs are distributed every week, including the first week, the system will see very rapid inflation; first week will be 100% inflation, 2nd week will be 50% inflation, etc.  This would result in a rapidly declining per-LTBC valuation for those first few weeks.  I would be in favor of a much larger Genesis Block, perhaps as much as 25% of the final money supply, just to prevent the inflation issues.  Even if it means tweaking the initial payout percentages, so that (say) content creators get 75% instead of 50%.

Also, I don't like the idea of having a premium membership be purchased with fiat, and then that premium membership coming with a certain amount of LTBCs.  I think that it should be the other way around -- premium memberships should be purchased with LTBCs!  This creates more money flowing into the ecosystem and setting a price floor for LTBC.  Instead of $20 for a premium membership, charge 20 LTBC.

In general, I think that the more you can get fiat flowing into LTBC through exchanges, the better off the coin will be.  I understand that you and other contributors have to earn a living, but IMHO the best way to do that is by having a liquid market in LTBC (to BTC or directly to fiat).  Allowing LTBC to be purchased (directly or indirectly) through other means will just distort the market.  In general, just make the statement: "LTBC is the currency of the Let's Talk Bitcoin network, and it is the only currency we accept for payment.  If you want to buy anything from us, you must obtain LTBC."  I understand that it might be wise to transition to this philosophy over time, but I think that it makes a lot of sense.

sull said:How do we protect branding and IP?

tl;dr: I'm not sure we can.. nor am I convinced it matters.
LTBcoin will be inherently global because the internet is global. Cool. The problem here, with respect to intellectual property (IP), is that every country has different IP laws and different enforcement of those laws. There is no practical way for a group like us (versus a WalMart, Starbucks, Apple, etc) to realistically protect any IP outside of a few select countries. The costs (time, money, and effort) would be astronomical.
LTBcoin, like most digital currencies, is based on the blockchain breakthrough - which at it's heart eliminated the need for a centralized trusted authority by creating and incentivizing a decentralized trusted authority (aka the miners, collectively). Since LTBcoin will be born without the "original sin" of requiring a centralized authority, why would we then turn to these centralized authorities (namely governments) to help us enforce our IP rights? (Furthermore, what IP rights are we entitled to? By whose authority??)
The more important question is: what are the consequences of having no IP protection?
My biggest concern is that another LTBcoin will be created with the intention of leveraging the LTBcoin brand to sell people this "fake" LTBcoin. This is a problem - as @sull stated - for this entire class of cryptocurrencies and it's currently the user's responsibility to be wary. Not exactly an ideal solution - esp since it impedes adoption - but that's sort of the way it goes right now. The good news here is that WE control our own microphone - the podcasts, videos, blogs, and other trusted content channels that are part of the LTB network. So at the minimum, we can help people avoid scams with PSAs sprinkled throughout LTB content.

Aside from the scam/phishing issue, I can't think of another example where it really matters if others attempt to infringe upon LTBcoin and LTB branding and IP. Can you?-CC

I'm not sure what the point of this would be. Unless CNN really really wants to tip everyone for their hard work. :)

I agree on some level, @cryptocoin.
Though I use the terms IP and Trademark etc, Ideally we could have a system that in some ways mimics the core purpose of protecting your brand but without relying on traditional central agencies and authorities but rather build new infrastructure in line with the cryptosphere.
In my view, something needs to be done here. Because it can cost money and cause harm on both sides.Branding is not cheap. Especially when done properly. And adding additional risk to an already risky business for users/investors/customers.... just sucks.
For starters, Exchanges should at least publish a set of industry standards to adhere to so that bullshit kiddie coins that serve no purpose other than to play along, p&d and ultimately dilute the general market perception.... are never added to their exchanges.
This is important now that coin gens are out there doing all the initial heavy lifting to get you started with an alt coin.... and of course even metacoins as issued assets are likewise simple to deploy to markets.
I think it is amateurish to ignore these issues. It's easy to imagine a mess being made... when realistically their could exist several spoofed assets across the board.
Sometimes some components work best when centralized. In this case, maybe a central registry as part of the consortium for cross-checking assets would be a good place to start.
