I feel like LTBc is ruining the the forums completely...

Not because of the coin itself, I am totally supportive and in favor of LTBc and think it is an incredible innovation to reward users for participation. However, the spam that is showing up on the forums has become so painfully apparent that it almost makes them not worth looking at.

Comments that are actually worth responding to and ideas that are interesting are lost in a sea of worthless one word comments that are only present to increase that users post-count for the week's distribution. Threads that are months old getting bumped with the same type of a comment. Usernames that are jibberish and obviously just another fake account in someone's database of accounts to spam from.

It's overwhelming. Aside from the fact that it's a disincentive to people to participate because their share distribution has to include all of the spammers, no one wants to comb through a thread and pick out the one or two relevant comments. The value that could have been there built from actual engagement is beginning to be impossible unless you manage to spot a new thread before the spammers have bloated it with garbage.

Seriously, things that one google search or click on a link in the sidebar are repeatedly asked. I don't even want to think what happens on the non-English boards which could be random typing for all I know.

If you see spam, or just blatant nonsense posts, feel free to use the "Flag/Report" link, either myself or another mod should take care of them, and take care of the user themselves if they become a problem. I agree that spam is a bit of a problem at the moment, but we are trying to keep a handle on it.

I think once we have a good upvote/downvote system in place as well as some of the other improvements to the forums then it will be a lot better. People that post useless crap will just get downvoted to hell. Also, right now if a mod comes and removes somebodies post, they actually get negative participation points. So if you spam or post junk all the time and still manage to not get banned, you can actually be automatically excluded from the weekly LTBC rewards.

I think that will definitely help as well. I try to flag as many as I catch but some of them are just on the fence and I cant tell if it's just poor English or spam.

Yeah, I have that problem as well. There are a lot of non english speakers and people from all around the world on here. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if they just do not know or understand english very well or are deliberately trying to spam or post crap

Sadly this is true and I've found that I visit maybe once per week at this point. I can't stand to sort through all of the bullshit anymore and the SvN ratio is off the charts here anymore. It is a major turn off to me and I am sure many others as well.

This really needs to be more of a priority in my opinion at the moment. It is literally destroying something that is relatively cool.

Sometimes the blatant nonsense posts I worry it's just me being insensitive to the non english members :)

have you tried using the "Filter Boards" option on the Recent Posts section? I find that it helps quite a bit for sorting through a lot of the crap, at least for me personally. Uncheck the newbie boards, market speculation and the non-english sections and its not too bad :)

In general I agree though. Some major forum improvements are coming, just a lot of things to juggle right now and basically only one active developer (me). Hang tight!

I'd like to see some of the other strategies I've heard about on previous posts, like "must have x LTBc" to post. Not going to solve the problem alone, but helps. I suspect a lot of the spammers simply dump the LTBc on the market on the weekends. Making them hold a little will help the value and, perhaps, reduce the number of spammers who don't want to hold.

If someone posts nonsense in reply to me, as happened the other day, I go through his recent posts and flag everything that can be considered spam. It is in my interest to do that because I will receive more LTBc. Otherwise I don't really flag posts for the same reason as everyone else - it is so difficult to know if something is really spam or not.

But, I think it's worth noting that it is in your interest (and mine :P) to flag posts to get rid of them so you get more coins.

I've been stumped lately trying to figure out if some posts are purely for LTBc points, or if they are just short posts by non-English speakers (especially in comments to articles). I think some type of refined rating system of comments in the forum, and on the articles, would be helpful. Perhaps it can slowly evolve with algorithms that look for gaming of the system, and flag those instances to mods. It seems that's what y'all are working on, so hopefully what you implement will improve the user experience!

Oh, I realize there's a down vote on the articles now, but I"m apprehensive to use it, as I'm unsure if the commenter is notified I've down voted them, and may decide they want vengeance.

Do you mean the "Flag/Report" link? Only the moderator gets notified
