Thanks @jamesmm. I know this isn't going to change anything, but at least I want people to have to confront what's going on, not to ignore it or, or pretend it isn't happening.

The truly brave people are those in Gaza, trying to survive and refusing to give up, under situations most of us simply cannot imagine.

What am I asking? Any Israeli or Israeli company involved in Bitcoin must be shunned. They may be good people, individually, but what they represent is not acceptable. Any Bitcoin company, or podcast, must reject these people, not for who they are, but for what their country represents.

While my heart goes out to you in your struggle, I do not see this kind of group thinking as the solution. It seems that you admit above that not all of the people living in Israel have the same belief system, or are all supportive of everything their government does.

I am not supportive of everything my government does, and I would not want to be held accountable for it...Unfortunately, democracy is tyranny of the majority, even to the point of war.

Again, my heart goes out to you... it's a horrible situation over there.

I agree. Shunning bitcoin businesses from israel is going to do absolutely nothing for the situation. Maybe the people there that are trying to break into the bitcoin space are also ones that very much disagree with the current paradigms, kind of like the rest of us? If anything we should be encouraging it because it goes against the paradigm.

I loved the ad you put on the show, even though, as I stated earlier in the thread, your ideas are not something I share. I do find it somewhat admirable you weren't deterred by the detractors in this thread, but rather moved to take further action.

Well, I didn't really expect everyone to agree, I didn't really know what kind of reaction it would get, I just felt like I had to say something. A lot of people may not be aware of what is going on, so their initial reaction might be negative, but perhaps as some people learn more, their views might change. A lot of people just have very limited information, mostly because of the media. Many casually say things like "well, it's a problem that's been going on for thousands of years, what can you do", which is, of course, completely untrue.

And even if people don't support a boycott, maybe they might at least ask their public representatives to stop sending arms and money to Israel, especially when it's their tax dollars.

Btw, here's some proof that the boycott is already working. I have never seen a quote like this from a giant corporation before:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2721162/Starbucks-forced-quell-rumors-claiming-coffee-giant-financially-supports-Israel-army.html

Coffee giant Starbucks has been forced once again to deny rumors that the company or its chief executive financially support Israel and its army. 'This is absolutely untrue,' the company said in a statement in response to the swelling hoax that the coffee chain and CEO Howard Schultz donate millions of dollars to support the Israel Defense Forces. 'Rumors that Starbucks or Howard provides financial support to the Israeli government and/or the Israeli Army are unequivocally false,' the Aug. 5 statement continues.

They would not have made a statement like this if they weren't losing a significant amount of money.

Here's a relatively short video of Jewish lobbyist and activist, Josh Ruebner, making the case in a much more impassioned and convincing way than I was capable of:

Note that I do not support or endorse the organization that published the talk on youtube (and in fact do not agree with them.)

I live in Toronto, Canada, and I regularly see people of various backgrounds, faiths and "races" who have married, had children, and are living together comfortably without any problem. This could be a white man with an Arab woman, a muslim man with a Canadian man, an Arab woman with an Irish woman, or practically any other combination you can think of. Even adding the labels I used seems wrong, I just see people getting together and living their lives. And, for the most part, no one cares, it's just normal.

In Israel, you need a court order to prevent racists from trying to protest against an "inter-racial" wedding:

    http://www.juancole.com/2014/08/israel-muslim-wedding.html

Oh, and the protestors weren't just happy with their racism, they were shouting "Death to Arabs!". Imagine a similar situation in Canada, where protestors gather to chant "Death to Ni***" or "Death to Fa"? First of all, it would not happen, and if it did, the "protestors" would be arrested and charged with hate crimes.

@cmason You are officially my favorite poster on this forum.

I tried to have a conversation about the events in Gaza recently at a bar with a few strangers who i overheard talking politics...

The group seemed stunned and ill informed. Which was surprising to me, since they seemed rather "in tune" with domestic (USA) events.

I think many Americans like to live with their head in the sand. As long as bombs arent wizing over their houses, it doesnt matter to them.

This mentality is not only selfish, but absurd. Our tax dollars are directly funding these type of disgusting events and I personally cant support that...

Bitcoin is appealing to me personally because it has allowed me to get off the grid or fly under the radar. I have not paid taxes in 3 years, and although not all my tax dollars do fund stuff i dont believe in, i make up for that by directly donating a percentage of my income to causes and entities who provide various social services.

I dont want to derail your thread with anymore personal details, but wanted to thank you for posting a topic of great importance such as this...

    Bravo

    Thanks @alchemix.

I didn't used to talk about this stuff, I was worried that I be would accused of anti-semitism, or that it would cost me friends. I believe things are changing, however, especially with younger people, who perhaps don't carry our baggage, and just look at things and call them as they see them. The things going on in Israel would never be tolerated by anyone in any other context. The special pleading and exceptionalism that has surrounded all issues related to Israel is beginning to lose sway.
