@bcohen its not plagiarism but its not ethical either.

Help me out with a retweet if you can

I just shot this a retweet. Might not be plagiarism, but is still pretty dirty IMO. Can't believe there was not even a trace of an attribution on this.

  • Re: LTBc Fantasy Football

@loon3 Because I am obliged, my unique phrase to post to the league thread:

    Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers

Movie context, so you guys don't think I'm weird.

  • Re: LTBc Fantasy Football

@loon3 Just phenomenal work on this commish! Awesome job! Setting things up now!

  • Re: LTBc Fantasy Football

@Ronniejames I certainly understand the sentiment from being in situations like that in the past with other leagues. However, I think we can take a "multisig" approach and say all trades are approved by a league majority of 8 owners. I sincerely doubt, especially with all the weekly rewards and incentives we have in place, that collusion will be an issue for us. If it did happen to be an issue, I'm sure we could spot it pretty quickly and bring the issue to a vote.

    @adam @loon3 @therealtwig

You know, we could even do the peg without a vending machine. You could do it just using the decentralized exchange. You just place a gigantic order selling LTBc and buying FOOTBALL at 1.01LTBc/1FOOTBALL and at the same time place a gigantic order selling FOOTBALL and buying LTBc at 1.01FOOTBALL/1LTBc

There will be a tiny tiny trading range but effectively it will be a pegged market, and since we control the number of FOOTBALL available we can control the size of the market and not let it run away from us.

I'd be happy to help experiment with this decentralized-exchange based peg mechanism.

I will just echo the sentiments of @necrix & @popinjay about this being a phenomenal idea. I also agree with @popinjay about innovation possibilities in the fantasy sports space. To my knowledge, no service out there has league features like ones we have talked about built in, and I am 100% certain token based ideas in fantasy sports are original and completely worth experimentation. Very exciting!

@adam on the subject of my generosity, is a voice server helpful? We have a 20 man voice chat server that can do high quality recordings in case you want to do any meetings, wrap ups or drafts with personal element.

Also, is there going to be a fixed exchange rate between the coin @loon3 is creating for this against LTBc? I'd love a 1:1 peg with a vending machine so non-players can participate.

I think it would be awesome to draft with a voice server available! One of the leagues I am in does a live draft and it is great being able to chat/talk smack during the process! What do others think?

Very interesting idea @adam re: 1:1 peg with LTBc, and I would totally be in favor if that is possible @loon3. When I saw your idea though about "non-players" participating, an idea hit me immediately I would be curious to hear from others about. Non-players could get involved on a weekly basis by backing the team token they believe is going to score the most points that week based upon their lineup. If they are correct, they split an 80% share (20% goes to the high scoring team owner) of all the token backings from the league (including those towards non-winning teams) that week and could exchange back to LTBc if desired. If not, they could use their tokens to continue to back that team next week or trade them to back any other team in the league they desired.

I suppose another way non-players could participate would be with future markets (betting on the winning squad), but I didn't have as formulated of a thought there.

Is this idea on point with non-players participating, or am I way off base here?

  • Re: 1 ether = ???

@shopnhowler Any ideas for smart contracts? The most well thought I've seen are related to reputation and government safety catch systems. Arguably very important, but these app types are currently being sought after in other platforms like Open Bazaar or could be developed in other platforms. Speaking of other platforms, BlackHalo lays the claim that they're the first to implement smart contracts.

The intellect on the Ethereum team is striking, but it looks like their focus is on the platform itself not the project. Right now, there are so many similar projects being worked on with different teams and progressions, that it's hard to compare. Note: I currently don't have any blackcoins or have pre-bought any ether, so I have no stake in trying to upsell one or the other.

Very good points. With smart contracts, I am most interested in self-executing contracts that are realized when a condition is met. Take for example, an independent contractor whose current work flow consists of way too much time trying to prove to a central authority (boss) that they completed their work and then has to wait net 30 or net 60 to get paid. I am excited for applications that solve problems like this by automation and logic, hence platforms like ethereum.

  • Re: Heads Up...Introduction to Linux Class Starting Soon

@page What about this course -

    https://www.edx.org/course/utaustinx/utaustinx-ut-2-02x-ideas-twentieth-2631

Is that one you normally have to pay for too and is free atm? I have watched some of that guy's leactures on youtube about continental philosophers.

    https://www.youtube.com/user/PhiloofAlexandria/videos?flow=grid&view=0&sort=p

I believe you are asking if that course also has a free/pay model and it looks like it does as well.

As an aside, I started out my edX journey earlier last year by auditing a course for free, but my philosophy has changed since and I have donated to every course I have taken. It's a longer conversation, but I believe what they are offering with MOOCS is quite frankly the future of education and I am more than happy to donate my $50-100 every now and again to help them reach out to more learners worldwide. I will happily take the trade off for high quality education and verified completion badges to accompany my profile. I have had nothing but good experiences and have been more than pleased with the quality so far.

I only am as competent with programming as I am today thanks to starting with the courses I have taken through edX (specifially the xseries through MIT). They kind of took a hobby and helped me grow it even further. Looking forward to now experimenting with Linux!

I can concede to a snake draft. It's easier and most everyone is familiar with it. I say we keep the rules as close to the Yahoo defaults as possible for a head-to-head league (makes it a lot easier for me to create the league :P).

Championship on Week 16 is good for me (I think that's a default).

Here's something to consider as an alternative...

@adam generously committed 50,000 LTBc to the pool if we can find a creative way to use it. We could use that to reward the highest score each week. One of the big advantages using Counterparty assets to represent teams is that we can easily payout dividends each week to the top scoring team.

We could compromise between @necrix and @therealtwig by adding 20,000 LTBc to what Adam committed and use that 70,000 LTBc to payout the highest point total each week. The remaining 50,000 LTBc can go to the highest combined total for the season.

This puts the total pool at 260,000 LTBc (15,000 X 14 + 50,000 from Adam).

    • 125,000 payout to the League Championship winner
    • 15,000 payout to the League Championship runner-up
    • 50,000 payout to the highest combined point total for season
    • 5,385 per week (70,000 total) for the highest score each week during the regular season (13 weeks)

This all sounds great @loon3! Great compromise all around and this instantly becomes my favorite fantasy league! I love it especially when everyone is active and enthusiastic...makes for a much more enjoyable experience (and more smack talking during the year as well ;) )

Thank you so much again @adam for your generous donation to the league!

In terms of draft time coordination, I've used a service like doodle or timebridge in the past with pretty great success. Usually pretty painless to get everyone on the same page.

    Looking forward to the season!
