  • Re: Countercode.club: Watch-Only Counterparty wallet with simple login!

Excellent! I was thinking about watch-only wallets for Counterparty earlier today. Thank you.

  • Re: What should be added to the forums?

It's exciting to discover improvements made to the forum as I roam around. Thanks @Cryptonaut! But...

Can we have a 'sticky' which maintains a list of features as they're added? It may be useful to people. I can imagine getting used to the forum as it is now, and then finding a useful feature ages after it's been made available because I got used to it not being there.

By the way, for how long have we been able to subscribe to topics? Don't tell me it's been there since the beginning! ;)

  • Re: MAIDSAFE releases Network Visualizer

@sbux So MAIDSAFE will not release anytime soon:(

Delays seem to be 'par for the course' in this space. I think it'll be worth the wait (as with LTBcoin and seemingly Bitshares).

  • Re: World Cup

I'm glad it didn't quite manage to go to penalties. Although it would have been exciting, as far as competition goes it would've been an anti-climax to the whole tournament.

    I prefer rugby!

  • Re: Why Bitcoin price is falling?

@zeus I agree with your explanations. However the centralization of mining power in few hands around bitcoin is a very serious problem. I still believe that at some point Bitcoin will overshoot again (maybe $2k - $5k) but after that I think it might be the end. Whales will dump, price will plunge at current levels or below, miners will lose incentives and bitcoin will eventually fail..

Do you believe in such a scenario? Do you believe that another crypto could eventually replace bitcoin or do you think bitcoin will always be the king?

Could I point you to this topic where @adam has posted something relevant to your question?

  • Re: Could we change Bitcoin mining if we wanted to?

    @adam

My personal feeling is that power will continue to calcify in bitcoin and eventually we'll be forced to move to another alternative because its become so expensive and time consuming to make even moderate changes to the protocol when its not in a life/death situation.

Its only a matter of time before the "Bitcoin is Cryptocurrency" bubble pops, and the world is awash with a thousand coins vying for a title that no longer exists.

I'd like to add a thought in case people start worrying. If this happens, Bitcoin could still retain a good deal of monetary value, despite it not obtaining a monopoly. It could be a case of Bitcoin losing it's edge.

    Nobody knows what will happen.

@adam Its only a matter of time before the "Bitcoin is Cryptocurrency" bubble pops, and the world is awash with a thousand coins vying for a title that no longer exists.

That thought is a little sad after getting so enthusiastic about Bitcoin. However, it mightn't be so bad if it works out this way.

    Pros:

    • Bitcoin's functions could still be replicated.
    • Every "coin" could be perfectly optimized to suit it's niche.
    • There will be plenty of choice to suit people's needs, preferences and beliefs.
    • It would offer opportunities for a lot of innovation.
    • Tools could be built to make interactions between all of the "coins" simple.

    Cons:

    • People relying on Bitcoin to dominate would lose out.
    • It would be difficult to keep track of all of the "coins" (although this could be the case anyway, even if Bitcoin maintains it's footing).
    • Without a clear leader volatility could be a problem (although we currently have many currencies globally and we get by).

There's plenty to think about on this subject!

  • Could we change Bitcoin mining if we wanted to?

Listening to Episode 127, there were mentioned many ideas on how to change Bitcoin to improve the less than ideal situation with mining.

What if, in the future, there were a most excellent idea for altering the protocol to improve Bitcoin? What would we do to get this change past the miners if it were against their best interests? They would resist a hard fork.

I have heard people say that this would be a problem, but I've not heard about any solutions.

Would we be able to split away from the miners and leave Bitcoin intact? Would there be a way to incentivize or compensate the miners to allow a change? Could it be done in stages, giving the miners advanced warning of gradually diminishing rewards? Would we be able to somehow leverage the fact that the miners have invested in hardware and need Bitcoin to maintain at least some of it's value?

    OR

Can we just leave it how it is? As block rewards diminish, or hardware improvements tail off, maybe mining will be less attractive to the huge centralized pools. Perhaps there will be standardized, readily available mining gear widely distributed in the hands of a great many people (using a p2p pool?).

There are so many possibilities that whatever happens in the long run will be interesting to watch.

  • Re: Issue with the sheer volume of LTB podcasts

I was managing to listen to all of the podcasts from LTB until I went on holiday in April. Since then I've been trying to catch up with it all. I've been listening to any new stuff and then trying to cross the older ones off the list as and when I can. The problem is I have another holiday approaching!! What a problem to have hey?!

Having said this, I wouldn't want Adam to put a cap on the amount of podcasts because I enjoy them too much.

  • Re: Stephen Reed's Hard Fork idea in favor of SuperNodes & partial proof-of-stake

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. It's fascinating to wonder what will happen to Bitcoin in the future in terms of alterations and forks. I wonder whether it will evolve or mutate into a completely different beast. If it does, will it be a case of caterpillar to butterfly or, erm...beautiful creature to ugly one?

For the record, it is not actually my opinion that caterpillars are necessarily less beautiful than butterflies.
