  • Re: Does Bitcoin Resonate with College Millenials?

    @daurgothoth I know of one project to donate bitcoin to a random new baby to hopefully pay for the college tuition in the future.

    Your idea to help my generation is nice, but the best thing for any of them would be to just get involved with bitcoin now. MIT is sure doing a great job at introducing the students to bitcoin.

    Personally I think the best thing to do about education is fix it for the next generation. We need an accredited, decentralized, inexpensive secondary education option. We live in the age of free information, so why is college getting so expensive? I'm thinking some sort of tutor uber app combined with an online education platform could do the trick.

    It is awesome to see MIT and the students taking such a hands on roll with Bitcoin. I hope to see more places doing this as well and getting these in the hands of millennials. BTW I am also a millennial.

  • Re: I was told there would be coins

    @paws1t1veev I think this could be BIG.

    It is BIG ;)

    In all reality welcome to the community. This place happens to be pretty awesome.

  • Re: What should be added to the forums?

    @dpc The lack of a Bitcoin Price ticker is one of my favorite features of the LTB site. If this were a democracy I'd vote to leave it out. The crypto community is not suffering from lack of price feeds.
    Howerver @william does have an excellent point that a ticker could drive traffic to LTB site if it were able to get published around the interwebs and linked back to a page at LTB.

    I'd also like to see signatures isolated away from content better. Perhaps if they were forced to the bottom of the post and separated from the content more (different color/Smaller or different font/stronger border). Right now on short posts a signatures show up in the center or top of a post and blend with the content of the post. This is pretty minor though and probably doesn't bother other people.

    @adam

    @william Would you believe I'm sorta a partner at bitcoinaverage? I like their price and breakout, if we integrate a ticker it will likely use that.

    That being said, you should expect LTB indexes in the future. It's a big area of focus for me, I think it'll be huge.

    I've been waiting for the Winkdex API to come out.

  • Re: Is there a counterparty app out there in the wild?

    @cmason

    @adam

    @cmason ... Hope it's Armory!

    It's not, we just did a session with Alan and he told me he's been heads down and doesnt know a thing about the metacoins that wasn't known last summer. I told him they needed to integrate it ASAP and that it was a very big deal.

    Good advice. This is the problem with being on the bleeding edge, you have to keep it up, or you get left behind.

    I remember going to COMDEX in 1996 at the Skydome in Toronto. (I still have the beer coasters to prove it!) Lots of cool stuff, including one of the first demos I ever saw of a flat LCD panel (12 inches, I think). But there were also companies with demos of modem hardware, including racking systems and support for facilities management. I believe Telebit was one of the companies presenting.

    So, you had companies going all-in with modems, on the eve of broadband. It's almost a satire today, but these were serious companies, and we bought a lot of their stuff. And it was good, reliable, well-made, but, unfortunately, soon to be obsolete. I still remember working in a very cold server room, replacing slot-mounted modem cards in a big enclosure. The products were actually pretty awesome, but a year later, no one cared.

    We spent a significant amount of time and money buying actual real estate, setting up technical facilities, providing for security and maintenance, in about 8 locations across Canada, so that most people would have a local dial-up modem number they could use. This seems almost crazy today, but that's what ISPs did, back in the day, if they wanted to compete. You can't expect customers to dial long distance to get on the Internet, right?

    COMDEX. Oh man. Shame that all such conferences have sort of gone to the wayside.

  • Re: Question: I recieved 2 Amounts of LTBcoin today, Is that Normal?

    I figured this was what was happening but am glad to see some confirmation regarding it. Perhaps we can update the two notifications to explain?

  • Re: Do you have a Circle wallet?

    Someone should offer a bounty for the first person who can prove they aren't a friend or family member or investor in Circle and have a Circle wallet. I frankly do not believe any outside users exist irregardless of what the company says.

  • Re: Does Bitcoin Resonate with College Millenials?

    @shopnhowler There are so many statistics that Millenials--those born roughly between 1980s to 2000s--are:

    • educated;
    • under (or about to enter) massive college debt; and
    • underemployed

    I realize there are those that don't follow this description, but for those that do I empathize with and am wondering if there's a Bitcoin/altcoin platform that can be created to help. I've listened to some ideas of podasts with Chris from Chris before Coffee, and his ideas of investing/crowdfunding in people have got me thinking. Anybody else interested/feel this way?

    I saw something about this on reddit the other day and meant to comment but ran out of time.

    Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are certainly very interesting for millennials. They are typically educated, and many are looking to create, build or join startups so they are an ideal target market.

    They've got a lot of potential to do cool things and most are looking to have an impact on something and cryptocurrency could be that thing.

    I'd love to see some stats regarding demographics as far as age goes for Bitcoin and might have to run a poll in the future on Coin Fire regarding that.

    Peter Thiel is paying people to not go to college including the Etherium founder so that is a pretty cool move. It would be neat to see this be done potentially on a smaller scale with cryptocurrency as well.

  • Re: BTC Consumption

    @grandma

    @coinfire

    @grandma Bitcoin is a good obsession.

    I couldn't agree with this statement more. Do you feel the other cryptocurrencies are worth some of your time as well?

    Absolutely. There isn't just one FIAT currency in this world and there isn't just one precious metal. There is something for everyone and diversity is a good thing. Cryptocurrency is an evolving beast all of it's own and I think there is plenty of room for innovation with successful new currencies. I like to think there is but one true block chain, but even bitcoin has a seperate testnet blockchain. That is a separate currency and it has real value, even if that value is only in the form of the knowledge you can gain from it.

    I've just recently started exploring the testnet blockchain and have become fascinated with the ideas and the testing of new things to improve the blockchain and Bitcoin in general.

    It seems a lot of people have some really great ideas!

  • Re: BTC Consumption

    @dpc It's hard to gauge how much time because Bitcoin and related tech really spreads across so many diverse. Monetary policy, Finance, Money supply, financial markets, Hierarchical v. distributed systems, cryptography, computer hardware, mathematics, privacy, and on and on. Bitcoin has definitely rekindled a many of my old interests and sparked a few new ones. Studying bitcoin really is it's own specialized liberal arts education.

    It's really interesting to talk to other bitcoiners who, like myself have spent considerable time researching, yet their knowledge base is very different from mine. Someone may know a lot about mining hardware while bitcoiner next to him is an expert in cryptography. They both fancy themselves bitcoin experts yet they have totally different non-overlapping knowledge sets.

    I couldn't agree with you more. The diverse range of expertise in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is amazing. I've met people who can basically tell you everything you need to know about topics such as change addresses and others who have more general knowledge and then of course those who know everything you could ever want to know about mining.

    It is one of those topics that has such a diverse range of facets that it could literally take even MORE time to learn everything you can learn.

    Perhaps someone should offer a BS in Bitcoin :)

  • Re: Gravatar support

    Throwing in another vote. The Gravatar API is super simple to work with as well.
