  • Re: Should LTB charge for its podcasts

    @dsmalone At the fear of retribution from the LTB community I simply want to float an idea for consideration. Items that have more value (quality, usefulness, branding) tend to command a higher price. Why should podcast be any different?

    The quality and value that Adam's podcast create are so much higher than any other podcast available, imho.

    Proposal: Offer 80% of the LTB podcast for free to all listeners then to "unlock" the last 20% of the podcast you either have to pay in LTBcoin or BTC. For example, the next episode of LTB features the main guest and then a "special" bonus feature of the podcast is an exclusive interview with Andreas about updates on his new book. Listeners who value content about Andreas could pay to hear that portion of the podcast or elect not to.

    I think the days of traditional advertising on media platforms as the main revenue stream are numbered. Cryptocurrencies are going to finally usher in the era of micropayments for content. Maybe the Vennd.io could be used to easily dispense these "special" portions of the podcast.

    Episode 87 "The Captive and the Mountain" where you interviewed Charlie Schrem after his arrest. If you had played 1/2 the episode then required payment for the second 1/2, I think a majority of your listeners would have gladly paid.

    Maybe this idea has already been floated but I thought I would add to the Lounge for discussion.

    Best,

    Dale.

    I think that this would be a huge mistake. LTB is competing with an infinitely large market when it comes to media sites. The space gets a bit smaller when you bring it down to bitcoin media sites, but it is still a very large market.

    People listen to the LTB podcast at their discretion. They are not begging us for a podcast. LTB is asking them to come take the time to listen to it. Along with that, LTB would love if you came to the forums, joined, etc. The first interaction most people have with LTB is the podcast, I imagine. If you tried charging for any portion of the podcast you would instantly put off a whole hell of a lot of people that would never come back and check out the site.

    I would submit that it is more profitable for LTB to secure a forum user and regular listener than to secure one listener who pays for a podcast and then leaves.

  • Re: Motivation for participation

    I think that LTB has done a great job of structuring the rewards program so that almost anything you do to earn the reward is conducive to the community.

    Of course, as with any kind of program like this, you run the risk of generating swarms of spam bots. However, I believe there have been talks of a solution to allow those of us actually contributing to the community to identify and eliminate spam as a community. If I recall correctly, this might even have the potential to be tied into the rewards program.

  • Re: Access to Forums from LTB iOS App

    @matt

    @darkbuffalo

    @adam and I were discussing this today actually. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about this. I can't promise it would be anytime soon with everything going on, this is a big undertaking. It might be more functional as it's own app vs. integration with the current iOS app. Thoughts?

    Definitely something to consider going forward, but as you mentioned that's a huge undertaking. I think the progress being made on the actual site is going great. At the moment, I wouldn't want that momentum being interrupted for the app, as much as I would love to have it as an app on my android as well.

  • Re: Reusing old mining harware

    @prototech Are there any create projects that are reusing old ASIC rigs? This technology is advancing so fast that old hardware isn't worth the power it consumes, which is inevitably going to cause a lot of waste. AntMiner S1's are still profitable, but are becomim less and less so every day. However, if they are under clocked then they will be profitable for a while longer. Maybe someone should open a farm where they buy hardware for cheap, under clock it, and make use of the hardware for as long as possible. What do you all think?

    I may be wrong, but I believe that I have already seen a service like this around. I've made a note to myself to research it when I get back to the computer. If not, this could potentially be a hugely profitable service so long as you have the resources to deploy it properly.

  • Re: Proof of Participation Report!! Week #3

    Another distribution. Congratulations all. I also think that making this public report is a really good idea. All the transparency for doing all the things.

  • Re: [NEW SHOW FORMING - APPLICANTS NEEDED] NAME THAT BLOCKCHAIN!

    @rotalumis Thanks @mjroncone. It looks like there are no boards, though, or do I need to be added to them? Anyway, I was just wondering because Adam asked me if I had seen the questions Adam Terwilliger wrote.

    And enjoy the crypto fun out there!

    Did I manage to fix it? Can you see the boards now?

    @rotalumis @kerneloops @mjroncone

    Have you got a trello set up for this? Could you add me: rotalumis?

    You should be in... I think. I'm out of pocket due to the chicago conference, so I'm not sure if it went through properly.

  • Re: [SUBMISSIONS EDITORS WANTED][5,000LTBc per column]

    An update -- we are still figuring this system out. As you can imagine, coordinating a couple of people who have never even really spoken before without any contained work space can be quite difficult. We are hammering out the process so that when the time comes to bring more editors on board it will be a breeze for all of us. Thanks for your eagerness to participate.

    I suspect that there will be enough content being produced that we will need more editors relatively soon.
