I listen to lots of podcast though the week, and think I would
participate in this community even if shares were not offered. With
coin being offered I find myself thinking in terms of "What commuinty
action optimizes return?". Is this just selfish thinking or an example
of a market pricing community action? I feel torn between ingnoring rewards and just being a part, or spending time I would spend anyway, but with mind towards what earns LTBcoin.
Is acting on rewards dirty thinking?

I would say optimizing return is selfish if it is somehow done at the expense of the community. Not sure how this kind of behavior would look like on something like the LTB Network. It's an interesting question: What kind of behavior would increase a person's acquisition of LTBcoin yet be harmful to the community? I suppose writing apparently well-informed articles that are popular yet subtly inaccurate would be one way. Another way would be to create a sophisticated comment bot that generates seeming relevant replies that you can then quickly post manually (I'm assuming the bot can't do the actual posting). Another way to try to game the system would be to play multiple podcast simultaneously from different devices, but this may not yield you much if they design the system to include a proof of participation that requires true understanding of the content of the podcasts. If you are good at multitasking you may be able to listen to multiple podcasts at the same time and get just enough out of each one to meet the minimum threshold of understanding.
Anyway, from the fact you are asking your question it seems you are not the sort that would try to game the system in an unethical way. I suppose an 'ethical' way to game the system would be to figure out what parts of the LTB network yield the most reward per time spent and frequent those areas even if there are other areas of the LTB Network that interest you more, but are less profitable. Doing this would mean you value acquiring LTBcoins more than the content of the podcasts and article you are foregoing. Would this harm the network? I don't see how, but maybe I'm just not devious enough. The activity of jumping to whatever is the 'most profitable area to participate in', regardless of your own personal interest, is kind of like mining with a multipool. What would be the effect on the LTB Network if a lot of people did that? Another interesting quesiton.1 like -

Thanks for posting,
I can not think a situation where one could/would cause harm to the network. I Think about situations like where one wanted to leave a honest and valuable comment, but chooses to wait on posting. The thought being that they could post at a time when the comment is most valuable. While this does not cause harm in any way the ethics behind it seem dirty. The other way to look at it would be "I waited till the network needed my content the most". While these questions may not have lots of practical impact, the moral questions about motivation are very interesting.1 like -

I'd say that any loophole that can be abused, will be abused.
If this community grows and we want it to grow, it will naturally attract lots of opportunists who'll have a goal of maximising their LTBcoin returns.
So we need to design rules that turn these opportunistic behaviours into the actual value to the network. This raises tons of questions like 'what's actually valuable'? is it the amount of content the network generates? or maybe the amount of understanding and value people derive from this content ? How to measure that value etc?
These are tough questions and a proper implementation will be even harder but as Adam said - we're here to make mistakes & learn as much as we can.3 likes -

While no model can measure subjective value perfectly, some sort of assignment of value by the users seems to me to be the only way to capture that sentiment. StackOverflow has stringent rules around voting and Reddit's model also generates quality content. I'm not sure if it can be done correctly with financial incentives however. Any time you financially reward behavior, you get more of that behavior, whether or not it is inline with the intent of the reward. I think the best engagement happens when you get voluntary contribution rather than incentivized contribution. It'll be interesting to see whether that can be proven wrong. I'm not against rewards, but ones tradable on the open market will end up being perverse if I'm not mistaken.

How about offering rewards for people that scan through the content and highlight bad information, or content that is trying to maximise rewards via unethical methods.
ie picking up a typo would be at the lower end of the scale, picking up a critical factual detail in a technical paper, or a faulty code in a wallet, a higher reward.1 like -

That seems like a good idea. What do you think "unethical methods" would look like?

I used to listen to "Let's Talk Bitcoin" on YouTube, but I switched to http://letstalkbitcoin.com specifically for the LTBcoin. I never posted a comment about the show, until the LTBcoin came along. I am also trying to make my Blog posts better so I can put them on this site and yes it's because of the LTBcoin. If you say that you don't care about earning LTBcoin, then you can donate them to me. I think that LTB has done a great job of structuring the rewards program so that almost anything you do to earn the reward is conducive to the community.
Of course, as with any kind of program like this, you run the risk of generating swarms of spam bots. However, I believe there have been talks of a solution to allow those of us actually contributing to the community to identify and eliminate spam as a community. If I recall correctly, this might even have the potential to be tied into the rewards program.

There is something painfully obvious about the way we are engaged with the LTB Network.
We are valued.
In the mainstream media I played in, we did not value the reader, watcher or listener. We just wanted to know (or at least have our advertisers know) that somewhere, someone was paying attention to what we produced so we could all make a living and the owners could retire early.
CBS, NBC, CBC, RT and even PBS cannot and will not, see our value. We are a dot on a screen, if we are even there at all.
Because we are valued, we participate.
Because we participate, we are rewarded as a permanent reminder that we are valued.
We own our rewards and can sell, transfer or destroy as we see fit.
We are valued to the extent that we are given things unconditionally.
Reminds me of LOVECOIN - Can't ever get enough of that.
edit Oddly enough I have 1B LOVECOIN to share.... No junk coins here... made with real love.
