Re: bitcoin empowers renting and lending
@meadefreling When is the moderation going to be ready ?
@rotalumis If you mean user curation for blog posts, I don't think we can commit to specific time-frames at this point.
There you have your answer meadefreling, it's not possible to tell at the moment, they are having a alot of work to do and not enough manpower to administer and handle it properly. Give it some time and they will hopefully sort it out.

Re: Mark Karpeles of mtGox starting a new company?!
@page I thought he was locked up. But, I haven't followed any of the news about him and I know very little about the justice system in Japan. Is he even still in Japan???
Yes. And the investigation is still on-going and might take years to resolve.

Re: Anyone heard of a way to use BitAuth as a browser add-on?
@omnibus There's a link to a BitAuth chat room on that page and that question was actually asked in mid-July, sounds like there isn't any browser integration yet but hopefully something is being developer as I would also be very interested.
@halo Something similar is being developed called CoinAuth, but unfortunately it's also not ready for use.
Sadly everything that has been mentioned is not developed yet. Thanks anyways and let me know if you find anything that works!
BitId is well on it's way, and I've started using it.

Re: New spyware out...beware
I opened the site in Incognito Mode and looked around. Every link you follow gives you popup advertisment but nothing tried to install and no United States Federal Bureau of Investigation logo as far as I could see.
Looked like some crappy version of an adinfested faucet.

Re: Bitcoin costs $30-$50 per transaction?
I just noticed I only take the US inflation and split it across the global transaction networks. A more appropiate view would be if you took every country on earth that uses visa and mastercard (most of them) and add their inflation costs as well, bringing the real numbers up quite a bit.
Please someone, do a more rigid comparison of this and find out if inflation / transactional volume globally is as grossly inefficient as I think it is..

Re: Bitcoin costs $30-$50 per transaction?
I got intrigued by the idea that this metric had no value, and decided to calculate the corresponding metric for USD. Taking some rough estimates for amount of dollars created under 2013 and the amount of transactions going on per day in the top 5 payment networks I came to a rather unexpected figure: $3 / TX.
Sources: http://www.coinometrics.com/bitcoin/tix http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/zelkadis-elvi/money-many-dollars-printed-destroyed-220246800.html
$358 billion dollars printed in 2013, a bit shy of $1b per day.
70 000 TX in bitcoin 320 702 000 in the world
$1 000 000 000 / 70 000 TX = ~$14 285 / TX $1 000 000 000 / 320 702 000 TX = ~$3 / TX
So if the worlds top 5 payment networks would have built with the same efficiency ratio, but only handled the size of transactions on par with the current bitcoin transactional volume, then they'd be grossly ineffecient "costing" a bit over $14000 per transaction.
Anyone want to do some fact checking, and do the reverse math for how efficient bitcoin would be if we would handle the transactional volume of the top five payment networks at our current efficiency?
