  • Re: Brawker.com takes a BIG CUT.

i have now posted an offer with 0% premium (so 1% since brawker wants their cut) for an item that I have been unable to attain with ordinary money. I'm hoping there is someone who speaks russian who is capable of making an order for me this way. I've also over-estimated the costs, so if someone knows russian and looks around they could probably buy bitcoin of me for a price that is almost 25% under market price.

(Yes, I'm willing to pay for the service provided, really :)

@crimsonroze ... No, I am arguing that a boycott that is targeted specifically at bitcoin accepting businesses inside an entity that you percieve as evil or morally injust where the actions you dismay are fueled and powered by monetary systems and regimes over the world is counterproductive to your ideal. You should judge each bitcoin accepting business in Palestine based on the individual business or owners and decide if their politics align with yours or not. If they do not align you should not do business with them regardless of their preferred payment methods but if their politics align with yours you should embrace them because of their payment methods as they strive to stay outside of the systems that fund the conflict you wish to put an end to.

Okay, thanks, I misunderstood your point. I still disagree, however. One could easily find many good, even progressive, South Africans during the eighties, but we still refused to trade with them. And you know what? It worked.

You're referencing previous success in a given context and apply it as if it was future success in a different, albeit similar, context. What works once is not guaranteed to work twice. I'm not saying it won't work, I'm saying it's not guaranteed.

Either way I wish you good luck promoting action, even though I won't participate against a boycott against bitcoin accepting businesses in Palestine. I do not endorse or promote the actions taken by leaders, activits and fanatics who hold different political ideas compared to mine, nor do I endorse anything that is based on, or derives it's power from, violence.

If you can bring about social change that is the betterment for mankind, then be my guest and invest your time and effort. If you can prove to me, without a shed of doubt, that your action helped bring about a change I view as positive, then I will thank you.

I will not, however, justify means by the ends they provide.

Targeting the few parties in these areas that are willing to go out of the monetary systems that support the conflicts you wish to put pressure against by rejecting the trade they need to remain free and independent is a rather counter-productive way to achieve the goals that you seem to desire.

Let me be sure I understand you. Are you arguing that a boycott against Israel might hurt Palestinians?

@cmason Okay, let me ask you if you take this position consistently. Did you support the blanket boycott (and sanctions) against Apartheid South Africa? Do you reject that campaign for the same reasons?

I think apartheid was ended while I was still a young boy so I have no context to this issue, I'm afraid.

Do you also reject the sanctions against Iran, North Korea and Cuba?

Yes, in varying degrees. Note that rejecting a boycott that is against an idea or politic, does not endorse that idea of politic.

Remember, the point of the boycott against Israel is not to punish anyone, it is to provide real pressure, without the use of weapons, to compel change, as it was with South Africa.

Targeting the few parties in these areas that are willing to go out of the monetary systems that support the conflicts you wish to put pressure against by rejecting the trade they need to remain free and independent is a rather counter-productive way to achieve the goals that you seem to desire.

  • Re: Genocide

@cmason What am I asking? Any Israeli or Israeli company involved in Bitcoin must be shunned. They may be good people, individually, but what they represent is not acceptable.

What they represent if a highly subjective view and falls under the eye of the observer. If they did not wish to represent and you choose to percieve them as representing, then your suggestion is based solely on your thoughts and opinions on a matter broader than your narrow view. Neither Israel or Palestine is single entities, they consist of people.

    See http://thepeacefactory.org/ted-talk/

Any Bitcoin company, or podcast, must reject these people, not for who they are, but for what their country represents.

By punishing the people for what their leaders, activist of fanatics represent only weakens the power of the people and strengthens the power of the leaders, activists and fanatics.

  • Re: [Sharing ideas and important discussion] How can we increase the value of LTBcoins beside creating content ?

One way would be to accept LTBc for providing services. If there's anything you're good at, you might want to offer it up for LTBc.

  • Re: How bitcoin enables the future.

@headswim I don't have any specific qualifications as an editor other than a strong command of English and pretty solid Bitcoin understanding :)

That should be just what I'm looking for. The content of the articles are there, but when read aloud I stagger and it could use some re-structuring to be less repetetive, for example.

Can you mail me at either [email protected] or [email protected] ?

  • Re: Exchanging bitcoin to Fiat and back.

@b1zarr0 Coinbase isn't so bad either. Just depends on why you want the bitcoin. If you are not looking to buy anything illegal or whatever.

There is plenty of good reason to handle money anonymously even if you plan on using it in compliance with law. Anonymity is not a crime. It's shameful that this needs to be pointed out, but lets do it again:

  • Re: Can I earn credits for completing captchas?

@rob Create and consume content, or help maintain/expand the network. Those are beneficial actions that make sense to be rewarded. Why would LTB want Captchas completed?

Depends entirely of what challange the captcha is trying to solve. If it's translating books, or folding proteins then there is value to the action. If that value if related to and should be rewarded by LTB though is @adam s decision.

  • Re: Virtual Memory

You will not get better performance from using a slow harddrive as a means to extend very high speed memory. You generally need only 0.25Mbps or so in order to mine.
