@Cryptonaut, @adam From the looks of it, the spam posts are being published on average every 5 sec. It looks like they are running some kind of script that keeps posting, as it wouldn't be feasible to manually make a copy&paste post in that short time frame?

How about a crypto centric captcha system? ;)

    These guys are prolific. Unbelievable.

The recent spam wave was 10 pages, with multiple accounts posting multiple spam messages. I had thought that limiting a new account to 5 posts would help, but I realize that approach will just make the spammers create more new accounts. It's probably easier for the LTB admins to delete 5 spam accounts with 50 spam messages each rather than deleting 50 spam accounts with 5 spam messages each.

I think Adam's idea of pay-to-post is the only way to fight this. There has to be a cost to the spammer in order to prevent spam. Right now, it only costs the spammer some time, and they seem to have plenty of that.

Edit: I reported at least one spam message from each spam account I found in the 10 pages of spam.

    Yeah it's pretty wild

It's been worse recently because both I and mostly Nick have been super busy and not had time to do the normal fast clean-outs.

I wish we had the resources to do this right now but we're already so slammed it's not even funny. Should have two pilot projects for deeper Tokenly integrations hitting in September/October

@adam, Sounds good, I guess will have to help each other reporting spam and doing the manual cleanup until a more robust system is in place. Another suggestion is that new users are not allowed to post links until say after 5 posts or something. Sure we would have a bunch of attempts at workarounds like w w w . go o g l e . c o m and so, but at least it cuts back on their attempts to boost their SEO ranking.

I'm making it more of a priority to check frequently as well.

It's getting harder to keep up, just buried like 20 more Spam threads, in "General" alone.

I'm going to go ahead and implement a temporary change tonight where all new accounts require an approval for their first posts, this shit is going on way too long.

Alright, here is how things are working now: From now on all new users are only allowed to post once to the forums, and this post is automatically hidden from public view. An admin gets immediately notified and can check out if it is spammy or not. If the post is fine, there is now an "Approve User" button next to the edit/bury/delete buttons which approves the post and allows the user to continue posting as normal. Additionally, I have temporarily disabled some of the forum API functions just in case those were being abused at all. @adam hopefully this puts a stop to the onslaught
