I have a feeling that this could backfire and we would just see a lot more "Good idea!" and "Nice job!" type of replies just to boost people's post count.

What if you did not ban/delete any of the spam post, but rather marked the account as spam. That way they would think they were successfully posting, but any content they posted would never actually appear on the forum. There's less incentive to make "burner" accounts since they think that they're getting away with it.

We actually already do that :p but it doesn't seem to work well with this latest wave of spammers, they only ever use a single account one or twice regardless.

Alright, made a quick update for this (said I was going to do it the other day, but that didnt end up happening lol). You are now required to enter in a captcha in order to create any new topic or post a reply until you have at least 10 posts. ReCAPTCHA V2.0 is much nicer also, just a checkbox you have to hit most of the time, and only if google suspects you are not a human then it requires typing the usual distorted letters. Hopefully this stems the tide, will have to wait and see

This is a test. Nice that you do not have to type something in but rather you just click the box. I think that is very attractive and easy for people to do. Also I couldnt find the login information, so I created this account. Its ok though, because I will give it to my friend who is known as PookOne :D So dont delete it

Also just as a note, this does not allow a user with under 10 posts to like something either. I think thats cool, but I wasnt sure if you know it does that

Actually the like system changed a while ago so that new users do not automatically have the ability to give out likes (to prevent PoP point farming) until they have received at least X amount of likes from somebody else. So in a way you need to be vouched for by other members. Also the more LTBC you have, the more valuable your "likes" are. So with just the 1 like that I gave your account just now, I think that should give you enough points to have the option enabled, thanks to my dragon-hoard of coin :)

Looks like we got another round of spam early in the morning.. not sure if captchas are just useless these days or what.. so far nothing I have found gives me a straight answer on that lol.

So I found this: http://www.stopforumspam.com/ database of known forum spammers across the web with an API. I checked some of the IPs and email addresses that these spam accounts have been using, and literally every single one I checked showed up as flagged in that database.

Went ahead and implemented it on the registration function, so it now checks your IP and email against the spam DB and blocks it if it's a flagged spam user (we can change the threshold for this, i.e must have been reported by X amount of sites/services). Now we wait...
