Can someone explain the choice of Doge over NXT? I am not quite sure I understand the rational behind it. Without meaning offense to the good people of doge my greatest concern with creating an asset over there is that the coin won't even be around in a year. Yes it is true that the same thing might be said of NXT or any other meta. There are however strong indicators about why this is unlikely to happen to NXT. I can understand if its more technically difficult to implement, but if that is the case someone should just say so.

POW coins I believe are fundamentally flawed and won't be around 5-19 years from now.

Because we've built a number of instrastructure pieces into the LTB platform that perform value added functions on top of what counterparty already does. Whatever we do for nxt needs to be fundamentally different.

I'm also not sure I'd agree with your lifetime assessment of Doge.

What Doge is building is familiar territory for many developers. Nxt on the other hand would require a whole lot more work which would essentially be reinventing the wheel, so to speak. That does not necessarily mean it shouldn't be done, but it definitely creates some unnecessary resistance.

I think POW coins will always have a place. Think of primecoin where the proof of work is discovering new prime numbers. I believe the real value of POW coins as a way to solve extremely difficult problems, for a purpose, holds a lot of promise.

I've been wondering sort of the same thing. To me...and please tell me if I'm wrong and/or why I'm wrong...but dogecoin feels like a fad. Like a modern day crypto "beanie baby" coin. My teenage boys dig it and they drive me absolutely nuts with there "much doge speak". I just don't get it. Not that I need to. My wife sells little hand painted dog houses for $1000. I don't frickin' get that either. But I'll take the money.

At least with NXT (and other metas) I see substance, or at least the possibility of substance. Doge...not so much other than the immense fan base/network. Which may be enough. Who knows?

I remember there was time it was profitable to mine DOGE with my video card. I was so happy everytime I sold what I've mined knowing that I make my contribution into hurting the price of the stupid coin. I never ever felt good about selling any coin, all of them had something cool or unique about it, so I had mixed feelings about selling. Except Doge. Much joy to sell, such dumb coin.

this is just the beginning, and many things will probably be built on top of doge, NXT, and others. we'll just have to see which ones work and which ones don't. also, we'll see how important it is/isn't to have a strong, secure currency as the foundation.

The one thing that concerns me about LTBcoin and other meta's is that the creators become so invested in "their" platform that they don't see ways to transition to another platform. There are two ways I see to solve this problem. One is proof of burn, the other is what I call stake burn. Stake burn takes into account the total number the total number of tokens on the previous platform and burns the old token at an exchange rate of 1 to 1.

I am not saying that NXT is the end all be all. I want to inject this concept now before sunken cost fallacy sets in. Maybe Mastercoin is the best platform. Maybe Mastercoin will release code improvements. That is not what is important to me. It's important to question "is this being done the best way possible?". If yes then good, stick with it. LTB shouldn't get bogged down by platform.

I'm waiting to see which platform most easily allows its assets to be unhinged from their particular exchange and available for other uses. I guess it comes down to a matter of which programming language is most amenable to the real-world integration of digital assets.

For example, say I own a company that flies a drone over extreme parts of the earth and people pay money to watch my video feed. Can I theoretically create an interface for my business where 1 DRONE token = 15 minutes of drone viewing time? I know you can put Counterparty assets in bitcoin wallets, and I know some coins like Namecoin serve non-exchange related functions... It seems like this type of thing could be entirely possible in the future.

I know I could have just as easily used "hi-tech nudie booth" for my example but drones are fun for the whole family.
