I second the notion that the magic word should have some relevance to the material in the particular podcast. Reward those who actually listen. Use an obscure word or ask the person being interviewed a unique question (e.g. Favorite comic book hero), and use that as the word. Or, like MMM, spread it out throughout the cast.

how tough should the magic words be?

ah, finally got it... so i guess, don't enter the magic word until the show is on the site?
@legendface66 Excuse the difficulty with finding the podcast guys, I had a tough time getting it to publish on LTBN.
The magic words are a game. It's participatory and purely opt in. My goal is to produce fair, answerable but difficult to google trivia. If you don't want to play that's fine. If you spend half an hour learning about wine that's a great thing even if you don't get a reward for it. Chasing the answers to these should lead you through a maze of random subjects, rarely if ever related to the content.
Because that's just how I'd like to do it. For no reason but the fun of it. This is not a consensus network :-)
like shawn, my comments weren't written as complaints either. but instead, in my case, as an expression of confusion (with a few opinions and suggestions as well) over the difficulty of what i had come to understand were simply rewards for listening to the show. thank you for clarifying that this isn't exactly the case with your show. from now on --or at least for a while-- i'll just have to consider beyond bitcoin to be a show without magic words --as if ltbcoin never happened-- and listen like they're not even there... unless, of course, you actually say the word in the show. i just can't play any games right now, no matter how tempting (my xbox is very sad about it)
i suppose i'd just gotten so used to the way most of the other shows were doing it, that i didn't consider it might be a customisable feature for each host. now i know more. it's a learning experience for everybody :D
in fact, it's just given me a brilliant idea... so thank you! (seriously, ideas are my favourite thing)

Super sorry guys. It had been posted to this site as soon as it went to sound cloud but took forever to make it to the front page. I actually caned the last one because of that. Now we all know and I'm super impressed that you got this one. The next will be easier I promise.

i guess, it's just a game. It encourages you to participate not only to listen the podcast, but also in the forums. I have never seen a post for Magic Words before in the forums except may be for introductions. So, i mean you can have riddles and then you have participation. It isn't about how much money you earn by it, it's just fun. BTW, Word was too Easy!! I mean it took me just two tries, that to because of spelling mistake. It's just chemistry. Well it may be easy for me, because i am engineer and precious metal lover, but still....

in some podcasts there is always a little song just before the magic word is announced, I can just click through the podcast untill I hear it and then submit the magic word. (~2 min). that is way to easy. Maybe you can spread out different words in one podcast that you all have to find.

Not so easy in my opinion. Besides I'm still thinking if the clue about helping to detect flaws is right. Would it be more accurate to say it helps to FIX flaws?

I believe that is correct.

I don't like having to rewind and search for the nth word... I don't like having to browse the web to find the word.
Best approach was the multiple words spread throughout the podcast (like MMM).
Or asking an interviewee about a word...
...as long as it doesn't require extra effort after listening the podcast.

I managed to Google the answer from the hints in the Comments for the podcast. So actually this is the first time I've managed enter a Magic Word(s) without listening first. I probably spent 20 minutes on it before I found the correct solution. I'd rather enter the word quickly and spend the time developing.
In the past I've seen people commenting about the difficulty for listeners who's native language is not English. This should be considered when choosing the word. I also believe it should only be one word. The entry form states 'Enter Magic Word' not words so could be confusing whether your first language is English or not.
