Counterparty addresses are bitcoin addresses. I thought about using the blockchain.info Receive Address API for this but the amount of bitcoin sent during the XCP transaction is below their minimum threshold. You'd probably be better off using a deterministic wallet to create new receiving addresses.

You could then use Blockscan.com's API to monitor the LTBCOINSEAT balance at each created sending address to trigger sending the invite email.

Ah - good find on blockscan.com.  We could save a lot of effort if we don't need to run our own bitcoind and counterpartyd daemons.
Can you elaborate on this a little bit more?
using a deterministic wallet to create new receiving addresses
Is there a simple way to generate bitcoin addresses without having to run bitcoind?

I also ran across this while researching hierarchical deterministic wallets:

    Ahh. I get it.  Sweet.
Here is one for PHP and Ruby as well:

So all we need is a master public key.  And we can generate wallet addresses without bitcoind.  Nice.

    https://github.com/zamgo/PHPCoinAddress

This is for simple generating public/private key pairs using PHP.  This solution could work although the private keys generated would need to be stored on the server at least temporarily which isn't necessarily secure.
Can't really vouch for the validity of either of these repo's but it's a good place start.

I didn't see this before I posted last.  Definitely looks promising.

I finally got counterpartyd compiled and running in a VM.  It was non-trivial!
Since blockscan only works on the live net (not testnet), I will need to test this with live assets.
I couldn't find a live counterparty wallet.  What do you use for a counterparty wallet on the live bitcoin network?  Is counterpartyd the only interface right now?  Is there a counterwallet for the live network?

[EDIT] Just found https://github.com/JahPowerBit/BoottleXCP - I'm going to try that next.

I haven't written any code yet.  I did compile and run counterpartyd on an Amazon instance.
I'm most productive developing in PHP.  And I find Go the most interesting right now.  Any strong feelings on either of those two languages?

Lets give it a try in PHP then. Not really sure how big the learning curve is but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I haven't been able to find a counterparty wallet that currently works on the live network. BoottleXCP looks like it could be really promising though. Good find.

JahPowerBit has just joined the Counterparty dev team, so we can probably expect to see more progress soon.

    Very cool.
I'm putting together an MVP of the app that we've spec'd out here.  That is still something we need, right?
