I've really struggled with this one but decided to reach out to the community to see what you guys think the best course of action is.

We recently posted a scoop about imgur. A scoop that wasn't easy to get and cost our staff some travel time to actually go and get the story.

We posted it here: http://coinfire.cf/2014/08/09/imgur-confirms-will-add-bitcoin-premium-accounts/

A site called XXXXXXXXXXX recently posted this: Removed link

As you can see they read as pretty similar stories.

Is it possible they sent someone to the same offices we did, talked to the exact same two departments we did? Of course, anything is possible.

Is it likely? No.

We've reached out to the site to ask them to at least state where they received the information and they've told us they "would check in to it". Here we are several days later and they still haven't changed anything.

How do you think we should be handling this at Coin Fire?

I'm curious to get the community reaction because we do realize this sort of thing does happen all of the time but getting this scoop cost did cost us money to travel and get it.

Edit: I removed the links to the site as they have since corrected this issue. Locking this thread just to prevent any potential in-fighting. Love you all though

damn, that sucks. I wouldnt be surprised if the majority of their stories were just ripped off from other sources (a lot of news sites seem to do this..)

It seems this is sadly the case.

I know this is an everyday sort of thing I'm just curious as to what people think the best course of action is. Do you just ignore it?

@y0c0ins Shame on them. I hope you are able to work this out.

I hope so as well. I've reached out to them and they seemed to have brushed it off. Likely expecting that nothing more will ever come of it.

I saw that and thought, this looks familiar.

With that I removed them from my bookmarks before even seeing this here. It just seemed very... similar.

I don't see the problem here? They reported on a story (as all media does) and cited the original source (your site). It is a common media practice to take other stories as long as credit is given where due. Since they cited your source, there is nothing to do and they have done nothing wrong. Major news outlets like CNN, WSJ, NYT and others do the same thing everyday.

As has been stated above, they did manage to source you which I actually view as a good thing. I would love for my site's content to be syndicated by others so long as they point back to the original source and drive traffic to me!

    They didn't initially source me.

It appears this has changed since I posted here.

So of course this paints me out to be a liar or someone just throwing around wild accusations.

Sites shouldn't suddenly change things, then fail to say they updated them.

The problem is they didn't cite him originally. This happened after they were called out on here.

Major outlets always cite sources. Apparently bitcoin news sites think they can just get away without doing the same.

I for one am really sick and f-ing tired of this crap. Why is no one saying this is a problem.

I have the archived version of the site and it doesn't have the source.

@Coinfire I know you aren't a liar and I agree. These jerks need to own up to the fact they changed the story.

What makes bitcoin news sites specifically think they can do this? Every single day I see good sites like this one, coin fire, the coin front being ripped off and then the accused never do anything until someone says something about it publicly. Then they just go right back to doing it.

We need a list of trusted sites and a list of sites to not trust.

I for one will not trust any site that does this, then covers up the fact they did it. So shitty.

You realize they changed it after the fact. After he called them out for it and they saw this link in the logs. They wouldn't have done anything otherwise.

Everyone just keeps being tricked by these shitty sites. It makes me sick.

Can we get a list of good places and places to avoid?
