I'm a graphic artist and small-scale inventor/entrepreneur who started spending a lot of my time exploring Bitcoin in early 2013.

I've been accepting Bitcoin for design and print work since May 2013 (my first Bitcoin job was business cards for the Let's Talk Bitcoin team to bring to Bitcoin 2013 in San Jose).

I've been selling Bitcoin Keychains since July 2013.

I made Litecoin keychains a bit later in 2013, but they haven't been selling that well (anyone want a deal on 1000 Litecoin keychains?).
    Lkeychain.com

I've written bitcoin articles on Let's Talk Bitcoin and Spelunk.in

And in October of 2014 I became an LTB Network podcaster with The Bitcoin Game!

I'm definitely not a Bitcoin expert, just an enthusiast who enjoys participating as much as I can.

@cryptonaut Looks like some of you guys were right and people have switched from farming page views to farming likes on posts lol. I guess how "likes" work will need to be nerfed / changed for next week!

Do you think ANY of the top people are really people who participated in non-spammy, non-farmed ways? If not, who do you think the first real (non-spammy) person is?

Fantastic, glad to see these nice designs, and glad to see you working together!

  • Re: Last 2 Magic Words already expired?

@jrb0bd0bbs This happens to me frequently. Just this morning (11/19/2014), I tried using the magic word from #162 which was supposed to expire on 11/19/2014. Epic Fail.

Thanks to Cryptonaut's confirmation, hope it makes sense what is happening to you. If the podcast comes out in the morning, you have until the morning, 4 days later (not until Midnight in a particular time zone). It isn't the best system (since the system isn't made clear to listeners), maybe it will be improved, thanks to people speaking up about it.

  • Re: Last 2 Magic Words already expired?

@cryptonaut @Rob yes you are correct, that is how it works. I kind of think it would be a good idea maybe to extend it from 4 days to 7 days?

I agree. I don't see any good reason not to allow more time, and it's clearly frustrating for listeners to miss out on getting credit because they are several hours late (and the actual cutoff time is confusing, since a podast can be released any time of day, but listeners don't have a way to know). And no matter what the stated cutoff is (4 days, 7 day, or whatever), I think it might be nice to extend the system's cutoff by 24 hours, so there's a grace period, to help mitigate the non-conformity of the cutoff times for each podcast. Happy listeners make for a happy podcast network!

BTW, I know you were doing something to the system, did you change the way the server keeps track of people being logged in? I suddenly have some new issues logging in from a second computer. I just kept instantly being logged off. But the computer I'm typing from now seems to still be logged in from awhile ago.

  • Re: Podcast mastering

@legendface66 - not sure if you saw, but @rchrd has a link in his profile to this site: http://www.audio-cleaning-online.com

Since you didn't ping him in your response, he might not know you asked him a question.

BTW, your show sounds great. Hope whoever helps with this keeps it to the same quality level (though rchrd looks like a pro, based on his site).

  • Do you listen to LTB podcasts for Content or Magic Words?

I'm really curios, and hoping people will answer honestly. Do you listen to LTB podcasts more because you're interested in the content, or to get the magic word?

Please don't be negative towards anyone who says it's the magic word -- I welcome the honesty.

@cryptonaut - it would be nice if there was a poll function on the forums that allowed each account to vote once, and, of course, kept people's votes private… any chance of adding polls in the future?

  • Re: Last 2 Magic Words already expired?

    @jrb0bd0bbs

I don't know this for sure, but my guess is the magic word expires exactly 4 days from the date and time a podcast is released. So if an episode of Bitcoins & Gravy is released at noon, it expires at noon 4 days later. Can you confirm if this is correct @cryptonaut? Unfortunately, I don't know if there's any way for a listener to know what time that will be, since the posts just show the release date.

When I'm recording the audio for my podcast, I rarely know exactly when it will be released (I haven't gotten to that point yet -- maybe someday). But I suppose the magic word expiration date and time could be added to the podcast description at the last minute, so maybe that's a good practice for all LTB podcasters… I guess we all just need to be sure exactly how it works. LTB doesn't give out a handbook or anything to new podcasters, so we may not know much more than listeners do about many of the mechanics.

Anyway, thanks for your message. I hadn't really thought about the ambiguity involved in claiming a magic word close to the 4 day expiration. Maybe all LTB podcasters can be more precise with expiration information going forward. I also may rethink the time of day my future podcasts are released, based on your input.

  • Re: About Sidechain

@jsea LTB episode 104 discuses sidechains and treechains and highlights some of the problems with sidechains with an emphasis on mining and security

    https://soundcloud.com/mindtomatter/ltb-e104-tree-chains-with#t=15:00

Counterparty being reliant on the blockchain has it's disadvantages , yes it could connect to another blockchain but which one stands out as the more likely or viable an option ?

Ah, yes, been awhile since I listened to that episode (I haven't listened again, but I should). So w/o memory of that episode, I think moving to another blockchain is presented as an idea to show the flexibility of the Counterparty protocol. Maybe at some point in the future, it might makes sense to do so. Counterparty on Bitcoin makes sense today from a security standpoint. The counterparty protocol on Dogecoin (Dogeparty) makes sense from a transaction cost and speed standpoint. But longterm, maybe another blockchain will look attractive. That's my take.

Note that Joseph VaughnPerling talks about sidechains a bit on my 3rd podcast (starts at 34:21): http://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/the-bitcoin-game-3-joseph-vaughn-perling
