    It's been a little quiet in here and there's only about 4.5 hours left, so giving this a quick bump. The only way to figure out who your competition (and therefore how much you may have to bid to win) is to put some bids in early!

  • Re: Problems with the latest magic word

    @cdj990 It doesn't seem to be working. Not sure how much I can say without giving stuff away but has anybody entered it successfully yet?

    Pretty sure there is a spelling issue here. I could swear I heard it clear as day but the official spelling of the word isn't working. So unless it was some word I have never heard before, it's spelled wrong.

    @dpc

    Good points. Facebook is currently where the eyeballs are so that makes sense if you're trying to reach a wider audience. It's pretty clear that the crypto community will jump on anything as long as it's free, so why bother marketing to us specifically. Ripple is great other than the unclear distribution. I am most curious about the Stripe connection. It concerns me, but cryptos will need onramps like Stripe and other processors before they gain any real traction.

    Stripe seemed totally random to me as well, however it makes sense in a few aspects. Namely, they are already significantly involved in brick-and-mortar businesses and that is the type of sponsor that crypto providers need in order to get widespread adoption -- sponsors that can make the network significantly usable by the population at large.

    @brkb can you still sign up? I want some

    I believe so, launch.stellar.org @nessence

    @mike I'll accept your offer. PM?

    Go for it, sign up, connect your facebook, and then follow the instructions to send "mjroncone" 1000 stellar. PM me when you have done so and I'll send 500 back.

  • Re: Stellar - New Crypto by Stripe

    @mdw Sorry @mike not buying that line about FB. They make that claim, true, but why then do I need to grant them access to my friends list?

    I'm with @dpc on this - somewhere betwen skeptical and suspicious - everything about this seems sloppy and careless. Yes, much like the original MTGox and that fine decision to turn his company over to Mark Karpeles.

    I think the access to the friend's list is one of the ways they verify that you didn't just make a random account in order to receive multiple distributions from the giveaway, though I could totally be wrong. It may be malicious, absolutely.

    @rob

    @mike While I'm not the biggest fan of Jed either, his results speak for themselves.

    So, second biggest fan?

    I don't have a strong opinion about him either way, but he's definitely a crypto-doer, and doesn't seem like a scammer.

    Lol, not even close. I just know the smell of a profit opportunity. If it weren't for Ripple and its initial free giveaway, I wouldn't have 90% of my crypto investments.

    Most things are worth a shot when they're free, if you ask me :P

    @rob Anyone heard of Stellar before? Developed by Stripe CEO Patrick Collisoon and Jed McCaleb (founder of Gox and Ripple)...

    You had me at "Mt. Gox founder." How can I send my bitcoin there :)

    Everything about this smells funny. Gox, ripple, credit card company, facebook..... But I'm a sucker for free and signed up anyway. User: dane

    While I'm not the biggest fan of Jed either, his results speak for themselves. He was the founder of Mt. Gox, not the operator when it went to the shitter. Stripe also facilitates bitcoin payments. Facebook is because it is the easiest and largest network to verify that people are not creating dummy accounts to game the giveaway.

  • Re: Stellar - New Crypto by Stripe

    @page landtheft - that is my username! I just made an account, what now? How do I get tokens to send them to people? Do you need a FB account, because I have never used that piece of junk in my life and I'm not about to sign up for it now.

    Yes, unfortunately at the moment the only way they have to verify real users is through facebook. Thus, you can't currently acquire STR without one.

    @adampoulton 43,000 LTB - The Bitcoin Doco - http://www.pozible.com/project/183120

    That'll land you the first slot for now. Good luck!

    One day left on this auction.

    @cryptonaut

    I'm actually trying to bust out a column submission to talk about this more, since I've followed Ripple for a very long time and have been with it through all the ups and downs. Hopefully will shed more light on the situation.

    @mdw

    @Mike There are already several similar offers on the Stellar forums offering to return as much as 800 of the original. You may have to bid a little higher.

    Yeah, I know there were. My bid will stay where it is for the hassle of dealing with sorting through the mess. If people feel like keeping it inside the LTB community then cool, if not, I encourage them to go through and get the extra 300. Thanks for the heads up, though.

  • Re: Stellar - New Crypto by Stripe

    @cryptonaut

    so its actually just a re-boot of ripple basically?

    It appears to be, in just about every way, shape, and form.

    From what I can tell though, after following Ripple for quite some time, is that Ripple Labs has changed their focus. Instead of creating a financial system for the regular Joe, they are building out their network for being the backend framework for banks and other financial intermediaries.

    Jed wasn't a fan of this switch, and I believe has created Stellar with the intent of being the wallet that Joe Schmoe uses every day.
