  • Re: PETAMINE.XCP - Mine bitcoin with your counterwallet! [Vote Complete]

@goldbit I noticed we could send in all tokens, Should we be limited to just one send back?

nope, send as many as you like! You can even send in all the votes for every option if you really wanted to (not sure why you would).

  • Re: PETAMINE.XCP - Mine bitcoin with your counterwallet! [Vote Complete]

    @goldbit

    @cryptonaut

    Option #4 (PETAVOTEFOUR):

    • End the project and give back the 1.25 BTC recovered
    • Allow holders to send back their PETAMINE tokens to the funding address and receive a proportional amount of BTC back. If we went this route, 1 PETAMINE token would get you 0.000068613 BTC back.

    Deadline: Oct 1st, 2014

So is that 68613 satoshis or only 6861.3 satoshis?

oh sorry I forgot to take into account only goes 8 decimals. I just copy/pasted that from calculator. The correct answer is 6,861.3 satoshis.

  • Re: PETAMINE.XCP - Mine bitcoin with your counterwallet! [Vote Complete]

@markxmayer Would you be comfortable giving your opinion on which you think is our best route? As the fund manager, I'd like to know your preference, and maybe the reason why you'd lean that way. Thanks.

I put my personal vote in for #3, would be cool to start up a different token

  • Re: Why should a merchant directly accept bitcoin?

Most businesses probably wont keep much or any at all until they can do efficient B2B transactions with it. As in able to pay their suppliers in bitcoin. e.g sending some coin to pay a manufacturer in china instead of waiting for an international wire transfer. Until then they will need to keep converting to fiat right away just so that they can stay operational.

  • Re: Site Ownership via Token

@coinfire Seeing the lack of interest in this idea I think I am just going to table it for now.

I like the idea, just no time or spare brain power to contribute much at the moment :p perhaps just not enough eyes have seen this thread? Have you tried bringing up the idea to your readers? (not sure if you have a subreddit or a chat room or something for community)

  • Re: PETAMINE.XCP - Mine bitcoin with your counterwallet! [Vote Complete]

Ok, the voting assets (PETAVOTEONE, PETAVOTETWO, PETAVOTETHREE and PETAVOTEFOUR) have been issued out and send to all PETAMINE holders.

    Context of the vote: http://letstalkbitcoin.com/forum/post/petaminexcp-mine-bitcoin-with-your-counterwallet?page=19#post-58564

To sum up, basically both the share price and the daily mining dividends have dropped significantly, and it seems like its going to continue down that road. To try and save at least some of the value put into the fund, I sold off all 2113 shares for a total of 1.25 BTC. This is just temporary until we decide what to do next.

    So, here are our options:

    Option #1 (PETAVOTEONE):

    • Wait until the price drops a little bit more, and then buy back in with the existing BTC in the fund (increasing total shares owned to make up for days lost).
    • Continue running the fund as normal and ride this out right till the end.

    Option #2 (PETAVOTETWO):

    • Re-purpose the PETAMINE counterparty asset to represent other cloud mining investments (everybody keeps their current tokens).
    • Use existing funds to buy shares in a different cloud mining company, or split it between a few of them. Use similar re-investment strategy. Example is "B.MINE" which can also be found on Havelock

    Option #3 (PETAVOTETHREE):

    • Use the 1.25 BTC recovered to bootstrap a brand new investment token (specifics to be decided on, could be something other than mining)
    • Existing holders of PETAMINE receive proportional share of newly created tokens. Old PETAMINE tokens become useless

How to Vote: Check your CounterWallet, you should see 1 PETAVOTEONE/TWO/THREE/FOUR token for every PETAMINE token you have. Simply send in whatever choices you want back to the funding address: 1CnYNtAztVEqNB8fYiUpX7qRUaCHjaTqp5

On the deadline, all votes received back will be counted and we will move forward from there.

haha this guy is so strange

  • Token Classifications

Mostly brainstorming here. There are many uses for coins/tokens, but I havnt really seen anywhere which attempts to classify and categorize them.. maybe because only recently with stuff like CounterParty and MasterCoin have all of the potential uses theorized have actually become possible. So anyway, here is my attempt:

    Currency / Point Tokens

These are the typical type of tokens most people know and understand (and use). Any token that acts as a currency, points or rewards system, or unit of account would fall under this category. This includes Bitcoin itself, alts such as Litecoin and Dogecoin (and all the rest). For the metacoin protocols, also includes things such as LTBcoin, Storjcoin (SJXC) and Folding Coin (FLDC)

    Equity Tokens

An equity token is any token which represents stake/shares/ownership of company, website, organization, property (digital or physical) etc.. Everything from company shares, to property deeds on a house, to profit sharing from a website, or an investment scheme. Anything that represents a variable value in something, ownership, and/or pays out some sort of dividend. There are not many of these out there yet, but I think we will see a ton of them in the future. SWARM is one unique example of this on CounterParty

    Redeemable Tokens

Redeemables are any tokens that can be sent back somewhere in order to receive some sort of product or service, digital or otherwise. This could be as simple as a token to receive 25% off your order, or buy 1 get 1 free (i.e, traditional coupon). It could be an advertising spot on a website, or sponsorship slot on a show or podcast. It can be 1 oz of gold, or even just an hour of someones time. Here on Lets Talk Bitcoin, we are already making use of redeemable tokens, and you will likely see a lot crop up over the coming months. Some examples (again, on counterparty, not aware of any others really) are LTBDISPLAY, HOURCONSULT (hour of consulting with @adam ;) ), SPONSOR, as well as initiatives by some others such as COINFIREAD (ad spot on the coinfire website) and BKEYCHAIN (redeemable for 1 bitcoin keychain). You can also get actual gold via buying GDTT tokens (run by Digital Tangible Trust)

    Access Tokens

Access tokens are a recent idea that has been developed over the past couple months (not sure if someone had already thought about it before.. probably). Our Token Societies service is one of the first implementations of the "Token Controlled Access" concept. It's been discussed on the show already, so I won't get into it with this post... but essentially its changing what you can access on a website (or game or w/e) based on what and how many tokens you have in a wallet you control. We are just getting started with this idea, but some example tokens are EARLY (gives access to the exclusive LTB founders forum), PODCAST (lets a user publish their own podcasts and create their own magic words) and STAFF (gives access to the staff only forum)

    Decision Tokens

These are special tokens used for decentralized voting. In most cases, a couple different voting tokens are sent out to all holders of another existing token at a 1:1 ratio. Holders can then go and check out what the voting is all about and what the options are. Send whichever option token back, and on the deadline all votes received back can be counted to determine the groups decision. With counterparty, tokens can be made "callable", which means you can set it up so that after a certain date and time, you can call back all of the tokens back to your address, effectively ending the vote and allowing you to re-use the tokens. An example that SWARM has done was issuing out SWARMVOTEONE and SWARMVOTETWO tokens for some decisions a few months ago.

    Name Squats / Junk Tokens

This one pretty much covers any tokens that have no real use at all. Typically ones that were made just for testing and messing around (I like to use WALMART tokens for testing :) ), but also ones that were created just for name squatting purposes (like whoever owns the asset named GOOGLE)

That's about all I can think of at the moment. Also a lot of tokens will probably overlap several categories, should be pretty interesting. Anyone think of any other potential types I might be missing?

  • Re: The Secrecy of Token Societies

Until we get to the point (i.e if storj and/or maidsafe actually work) that we can have secure & decentralized databases, file hosting and web servers... there isnt really much we can do to secure database and communications to the point where not even server admin can possibly monitor anything. Its a cool ideal, but the technology isnt quite there for it yet.

Also keep in mind that the token is the only thing blocking other peoples access. So even if you have super secret classified content.. somebody just has to acquire (ie: buy) a token from somebody and they can access all of that, so you would need to be very cautious about how many you give out and to who.

Protip: if you want to post something that is illegal or could potentially get you or someone else in trouble if in the wrong hands.. or if you are trying to hide something from the government or something... dont post it here (or any other website really, especially if hosted in the US). Use privacy tools that are known to work, such as TOR and PGP.

  • Re: PETAMINE.XCP - Mine bitcoin with your counterwallet! [Vote Complete]

@troy112 @cryptonaut at what price point did you withdraw?? I hope its 0.0007+

It was at about 0.0006. If I would have done it a day earlier, could have caught it at around 0.0007 :(

Looks like the dividend they sent out today was a little bit more, but still only about 300 satoshis.

I will post up some voting options in a little bit here
