The idea of token societies is great. One concern may be about the privacy of the content. If the content is in the LTB database, then token societies must trust that the database is not being monitored by moderators, and that the security of the database will not be compromised by hackers. Given the security risk, token societies will probably not want to exchange classified content over their private forum.

On the other hand, if the forum was completely private, and secret societies were granted full privacy perhaps by using something like Storj or MaidSafe to safeguard the database, then the forum would be truly private, and classified content could be exchanged freely. Of course it is possible and indeed likely for illegal content to be exchanged within the secret token societies, and this could put LTB at legal risk.

I wonder if LTB plans to develop TCA into a private forum hosting platform where secret societies would feel free to exchange classified content.

Until we get to the point (i.e if storj and/or maidsafe actually work) that we can have secure & decentralized databases, file hosting and web servers... there isnt really much we can do to secure database and communications to the point where not even server admin can possibly monitor anything. Its a cool ideal, but the technology isnt quite there for it yet.

Also keep in mind that the token is the only thing blocking other peoples access. So even if you have super secret classified content.. somebody just has to acquire (ie: buy) a token from somebody and they can access all of that, so you would need to be very cautious about how many you give out and to who.

Protip: if you want to post something that is illegal or could potentially get you or someone else in trouble if in the wrong hands.. or if you are trying to hide something from the government or something... dont post it here (or any other website really, especially if hosted in the US). Use privacy tools that are known to work, such as TOR and PGP.

    Agreed.

Once the technology is there we may be able to create an interesting kind of private forum. Maybe TCA can be used together with privacy tools like TOR and PGP. I would definitely agree that posting illegal content on the web is not to be taken lightly, however, in a truly secretive token society the exchange of illegal content cannot be moderated. Still, it is more likely that the majority of content will not be illegal, but rather it will be sensitive to society members who may want it visible only to members.

For now, I see a resemblance between token societies and google groups, but TCA is still in its early stages and can definitely take interesting directions.
