Xapo Bitcoin debit card review – Welcome to the world of “No limits” http://youtu.be/UkABcLnyqos

"You can imagine how excited we were when we received the new debit card.

Xapo launched in March 2014 with the Bitcoin wallet and cold storage vault. In April of this year, Xapo announced the addition of its debit card. The new Xapo card syncs with the Xapo Wallet.

“We are focused on making bitcoin more secure and safer and making it easier to use, the debit card is something that our customers have requested. You just have one card that you can use everywhere without restrictions.” said Wences Casares, the founder and CEO of Xapo."

Wow, this sounds great. In fact I am on the pre-order mailing list for the Xapo debit card. I have been wondering when these debit cards are going to be manufactured and mailed out. I especially liked how you had us verify our identity. I am still a little cautious about that one that I gave my info to and still like one year later no car yet. I like the idea of no daily limits. Would this be linking to my Xapo main account, or will it be linking to my Xapo vault?

The concept of paying anywhere that accepts a payment cards sounds great! And this is a great promotional fluff video (in my opinion), showing people doing all these fun things using this card (could have been a VISA video, for that matter). But unless you have tons of Bitcoin, or have a job that pays in BTC, is there a benefit to using this card?

With fees, trust in Xapo required (their honesty, business model, and resilience against technical and socially engineered hacks), and the transactions still must go through the legacy payment system (rather than the Blockchain), it seems like it throws out most of the advantages that Bitcoin brings to the table.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Xapo giving this a try, and perhaps there are enough people who need the service to make it successful. But I'm missing why it would make sense for me to use this card. I'm more interested in using Bitcoin to buy from companies that actually accept Bitcoin.

Am I missing the something? I'm interested to hear if you have another viewpoint.
