Cool project. What is the benefit of holding woodshares tokens though?

If you hold WS tokens you hold a crypto asset backed up by a physical and tangible asset, meaning you actually own a share of the cultivation and has rights over the benefits that the project generates (proportional to the amount of tokens you have).

By supporting WoodShares, you are contributing with the environment, since the project is helping to the CO2 capture, improvement of soils, reducing the felling of natural forest by the offering of commercial timberlands, contributing with forest for conservation ends (5% of the cultivation), and socially generating new direct and indirect employment that improve the life quality of the inhabitants of the region.

That sounds like all good stuff, but what are the actual "benefits" that people can expect? Share in profit? Get free stuff sent to you? Redeem for some sort of merchandise or something?

The economic benefits of WoodShares are:

    1. Sales of Carbon Bonds.
    2. Sales of "entresacas" or secondary fellings of the smaller trees to allow the bigger ones to develope their optimal size.
    3. Sales of main felling.
    4. Sales of the lands (In case that community do not want to continue with a new cultivation after the final felling).

All the incomes of the project are collected in COP, then they are converted to BTC and distributed among all the WS Tokens holders using the dividend distribution service from Counterwallet (Counterparty).

Economists and fund managers who rightly predicted the bank crashes in 2008, are saying its going to happen again within the next two years. Only this time there is a lot more dept around. The safe money will be in hard assets like artwork, gold, silver and land. As I personally believe in the future of Bitcoin I would include this as well.

One question is, what will be worth more in 10/20 years time after the land has been sold compared to the price of Bitcoin by then? I have been wrong many times in the past but at the moment my bet is with Bitcoin. ^-^

There is only one land and so far is imposible to produce more of it ... Remember that since the project is going to be managed under a DCO model, if the majority of the community wants to continue with the project, the lands never are not going to be sold, but the project will continue with new cultivations of timberlands.

Bitcoin is highly volatile and even it is expected that the volatility decrease as the technology and the Btc industry mature, we do not know certainly what could happen.

With WoodShares the increase of the value of the WS tokens and its underlying value is linked to the growing of the trees, the rise of the wood prices and the lands and also has a limited range for speculation, so it is much more predictable and stable than others cryptocurrencies in the long term.

We are also huge followers of the Bitcoin and we expect its future success (that is one of the reason why we used Counterparty to develop the project and not other diferente blockchain), but part of have financial education and maturity in business is be able to compose an investment portfolio that minimize risk, maximize earning opportunities and always looking at short, medium and long term.

So, personally I don't make compete Btc Vs WS, I am investing in both.

E.g. If at any given point, Btc would suffer some temporally price crash, Btc holders could swap to WS until Btc starts their recovering again.

I like the idea of encouraging longer term holding of assets by linking tokens to trees. Effectively turns a tree into a bond, in the sense they both have a set maturity. Strikes me as a very good way of encouraging crypto tokens to be held longer term and dissuade the short term speculation that seems to bedevil everything currently. May well have to investigate some more.

An additional thought. I can see a business case for a similar project whereby contaminated land is purchased and remediated through token driven crowdsales. Each token would then represent a share of post-cleanup sales proceeds, or perhaps ongoing rents from subsequent commerical or residential development.

Kind of wish I knew how to get these ideas off the ground!
