One of the strangest phenomenons within the bitcoin community is the sheer number of trolls. There are so many people that seem to pop up to criticize bitcoin despite:

Never having owned any bitcoin Never having been hurt by bitcoin or the community surrounding it. This is especially strange when you consider that these reactions often happen very soon after these people hear about what bitcoin is. It would be one thing if you were someone that bought at $30 in July 2011, only to sell at $2 in December 2011 and then gone on to denounce it. It’s completely another to decry it’s terrible without having been hurt by it. What gives? Why are so many people hating on bitcoin?

The reason I found this article so interesting is because so many people seem to hate bitcoin, without logic or reason. It brings up these points:

People can never have a fruitful discussion about something that’s part of their identity.

You can be angry at something because other people are falling for it.

Thinking about just the first one, how much is your identity tied to the current financial system? None you say? Are you sure?

    Just pondering aloud here..

The more ingrained a person's opinion, the harder it is to make them admit to themselves that they were wrong. Whether they have did accurate due diligence to explore both sides of the argument for and against that opinion comes into play.

With bitcoin, it's often a binary outcome. People either 100% behind it or they think it is a scam. It's hard to get someone to admit to themselves that they were 100% wrong. It comes down to how hard they try to rationalize their incorrect opinion and what lengths they go to continue to support it even if the evidence for the opposite makes more sense.
