    Did you expect it to rise in straight line? ;)

    I've always had a long view on bitcoin. I could really care less what it does on a day to day basis or even a month to month basis. I do look at quarterly numbers but nothing has ever told me to cash out cause it is a lost cause and once more people start to see a bitcoin being a bitcoin(without comparing it to fiat) you will see a steady rise without as many jumps and corrections.

    Is it really falling though? It's been trading in the 550-650 range for about 2 months now.

    From my viewpoint this is what is happening:

    Large numbers of investment capital is going into companies that will realize their value in the 2-5 year timespan. All that money that went into companies as investment capital last year is probably far from being realized.

    So yes, there's lots of good investment capital "news". But the tangible products for consumers that will be tweeted, shared and talked about that kicks in the network effect won't happen until the investment capital makes good on it's promises, which may still be several years off.

    Notable exceptions would be coinbase and bitpay who appearantly had a decent structure to begin with and could put the money to good use in a short time.

    Change is slow. Markets are fast. Speculators are random.

    @btcrevel Why should it stop at 2k-5k? Yes at this value the next CYCLE might end, and the start of dipping for some months again, but no apparent reason why it should be the end. As long as things evolve like they do now, there is no worry. Market capitalization is still to small to stop at 5k$/BTC.

    Minining centralization seems to be a problem that might be here for a couple of months to a few years, but for the long run it seems to be solvable (mainly because in decentralized way the heat produced by ASICS can be used at home for heating water for shower, ... so it just takes time for such new bitcoinHomeWaterHeatMiner and such products to be developed). => mining centralization needs to be addressed (SW changes that make centralization hard like 2Phase- ProofOfWork as well as products like MiningWater heaters), but things looks like this will be solved

    "Mining water heaters" great idea. I was pondering the waste of energy this morning, did not get as far along the road as you. I was thinking along the lines of using mining for space heating and then coordinating who was mining to follow the winter around the globe. Totally impractical I know but it seems a shame to give up all that heat. I am a bit of a global warming heretic, but I can see the energy used to secure Bitcoin through mining becoming one of the big issues going forward. Here in the UK the authorities are trying to price energy out of use through targets. Sounds like this may have started in USA. The energy spent through Bitcoin can not be seen as a positive in my view.

    Oh and to the subject, The price seems fairly stable for the moment, I was hoping for a drop to buy more. I trade shares(stock) and have come to the conclusion that it is usually a waste of time spending too much time trying to analysis fundamentals. Technical analysis may be useful in the longer term.

    Investment takes time to produce value. The technology is not yet as accessible as it needs to be for much wider adoption. There is still a very reasonable perception of major risk at the current price. New tech has the potential to replace current tech. The impetus to leave fiat alongside broader economic understanding has not quite reached the required tipping point. There are many more.....

    @zeus

    Can someone explain this to me please?

    Please share your thoughts.

    Maybe the "big ones" that are getting into bitcoin are trying to keep the price as low as possible while they invest as much as they can...

    Who knows...

    I agree with @adam in the fact that this is most likely the real value of Bitcoin before it was hyperinflated by Mt. Gox. We need to keep in mind that the price is still significantly higher than it was a year ago. This time last year was right before the massive price increase, which was at about $86 according to CoinDesk. I'd say we are doing pretty good. As for an eventual price cap in which people will just dump all their coin, not likely. Not everyone will sell their coin at the same price. Some will dump at $1000, some at $3000, but there will also be every variation at every price point in-between. Also, anytime a dump happens and the price goes down, there will be people willing to buy cheap BTC, which increases the value. However, As Bitcoin grows and becomes more diverse, people dumping BTC in a manner that actually affects the price will be less likely.

    There will be ups and downs for sure, its unregulated with no governmental body invested heavily in it (thus protecting its value). If you want to see how the markets are suppose to (or can be abused) then watching bitcoin is like the ultimate economic science fair :D
