I think VRC and vertcoin, and most of the one that have good devs... and a good community supporting it.. It is so new to really say what alt coins will be here in the next 5 years..

Maybe we have not even seen those coins as yet... I think LTB will be here if they keep getting support and if they keep doing what they are doing they will be here... but they do need to add more places to spend LTB

Maybe offer a LTB monthly lotto , sell lotto tickets for LTB so you can win more... just an idea..

But I do think at the moment the alt coin seen is still all over the place... and all coins really are as good as each other

BTC / LTC / VTC are the big players. I think DRK will be around for quite some time also. Other than that nothing else stands out as having a gigantic community that supports it more than FUDS it.

I would think that Etherium or an alt chain yet to be seen designed for smart contracts will work in parallel with bitcoin. This is assuming that we find out that the bitcoin protocol is not good enough for the need for stock ownership proof. (I.E. a stock worth millions tied to 1 satoshi as a colored coin could incentivise a %51 attack.)

Wow, hmm. 5 years is a long time, especially in the ever-changing world of crypto. Assuming Bitcoin is still around, I suspect only a few, strong, innovative altcoins will survive. Personally, I think the most popular altcoin will be one not even created yet. It'll probably combine several of the most popular and useful features of the current popular altcoins.

I, however, can see coins like LTBcoin staying around for a long time. Rewarding users for participating has been around for ages. But having the whole process use an altcoin really is a novel idea.

My theory is that once asics come there can only be 1 survivor coin for that algorithm. So I think only 1 scrypt coin will live, either lite or doge, hopefully doge. Dark is clearly ahead when it comes to x11/x13, but I dont know if it will turn out to be the best anon coin. In the end a fully anon coin might beat it.In 5 years I think its most likely only 2-3 alts will be around.

I think it will be interesting so see what "2.0" platforms will still be around, and if things like maidsafe will be going strong. Storj, Swarm, theres so many things launching, maybe Etherium will be out by then too.

sience-coins are making a boom: fold proteins and explore the galaxy and get paid for it. I believe in the next few years we will also see altcoins specifically generated as ingame currency. http://thebitcoinnews.co.uk/2014/04/29/quarkcoin-to-be-used-as-in-game-currency/

How nice is it to be rewarded for playing your favorite game, even if you get worthless tokens.

I think Stellar has the potential. It is backed by a large community and large corporations. It also has a very nice distribution system!

Another coin I think is CAPTcoin. It to has a unique distribution system and only certain number of coins will ever be in circulation after the rest is destroyed in a month.

Surely Stellar for me. It is unique then all others and quiet powerful

Of those that exist right now, my bets are on NXT and DRK.

NXT is sufficiently different from all other altcoins to make it unique. DRK's privacy enhancing functions make it useful above and beyond BTC... as long as those functions aren't incorporated into BTC itself.

Basically, anything that isn't just a BTC clone with a few parameters tweaked and (maybe) a different crypto algorithm has a shot at surviving. Of those, NXT and DRK are the ones that have made themselves known. If there are others, they seem to be keeping quiet, which isn't good for adoption.
