@badworker Google is indexing .onion domains? o.O any link to this? AFAIK both google and DDG doesn't index .onion, they both are search engines but DDG offers more privacy (happy to be proved wrong).
Uumm... Maybe I should have said *maybe google is indexing .onion (yeah I know. It was late). I've never seen .onion in google search. Thought OP was stating that he had.
I don't think that google is indexing .onion (at least not officially). Also I believe that it's very difficult to make a bot navigating that kind of network automatically.
As for DuckGoGo, I believe they someway use the Onion network in the process of anonymizing the search queries and filtering the outcome.
