Most altcoins will tend to 0 in my opinion. Most don't bring anything new and the network effect will eliminate them.

When the idea of crypto currency matures, I'm sure any altcoin without a community or something innovative will die off and it will be fruitless to make one without a solid reason. But I really think the idea of many different currency will never go away, but they will be required to have something behind them. Assets infrustructure, utility. Intrinsic value is purely case by case and user based. beads had intrinsic value at one time. so did sea shells. its a psychological emergence..

Agreed, but that doesn't eliminate the desire for better filters (and those could either be technological, or relying on the expertise of others) to assist in sorting the wheat from the chaff.  But in the "altcoin" space, the noise-to-signal ratio is high, and increasing.
Maybe it would help to code custom tools for this.  Things like the the watchlist feature on bitcointalk (and similar) help, but only go so far.

I am a newcomer for BTC and other coins. It's really difficult for me to pick up the potential coins among a large amount of new coins. Maybe it helps greatly if there is an article which can summarize features of potential coins with examples. That can also spread the knowledge about coin to common persons.

I don't think 1st gen altcoins have "features" at all. They all do the same thing Bitcoin does, just in a slightly different way. But a difference in inner workings of a product is itself never a comparative advantage on the market, only actual FEATURES are.

I'm sure we could theoretically build a parallel Internet on IPX/SPX, claiming it's a "hedge" against any unforeseen problems with TCP/IP, but at some point we would just recognize that TCP/IP works and stop wasting our time.

Which is why I am convinced that all those simple copycats are doomed, and that includes Litecoin, "Doge coin" etc.

xcpbank - I appreciate you pointing out the site about altcoin release dates.   I've always been relatively 'late-to-the-party' when starting to mine the newest alt-coins, so this might help my game out.  Thanks a bunch!
