Do you guys have heard about Retroshare? http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/

From the their website:

RetroShare is a Open Source cross-platform, Friend-2-Friend and secure decentralised communication platform. It lets you to securely chat and share files with your friends and family, using a web-of-trust to authenticate peers and OpenSSL to encrypt all communication. RetroShare provides filesharing, chat, messages, forums and channels

I wonder if creating a ring of trust (you only connect to someone you trust), would be a good place to trade.

I think yes, and it's a unique excellent new idea.

Because simply, you are creating a ring of trust as you said, so any one is not trusted, will not have the chance to deal with you or scam you.

That's right! And more, if some scam did happen, you can then see who trust that party and maybe judge if you should stop trusting that part of the circle. Also, because of that, one might want to be very selective on putting someone on their circle of trust.

The web of trust has been attempted since the 90's, it's no new and it's not unique. If has always "failed" due to cost of teaching and lack of userfriendly tools.

Perhaps bitcoin can solve all that once everyone has a wallet with ECDSA keys.

That reminds me of Google+ or LinkedIn.

But I think the concept is more deeper.

Oh, I'm sorry about that. I didn't know about that information, thank you for correcting it for me.

Could you tell us more about what are the ECDSA keys?

@crimsonroze Web of trust is also implemented in Debian, I agree it is not user friendly and managing the certificates is not straight forward.

Also Gnupgp is based on RSA but Bitcoin uses ECDSA which is more secure to quantum cryptography and more user friendly.
