Let's say I have a XCP wallet and I want to move SWARM to Melotic from Counterwallet.io. I do so and Counterwallet tells me I am short on BTC to do the transaction... So I mistakenly send the BTC from Blochchain.info to the Melotic SWARM address in my copy paste! Doh! I cannot see anything in the exchange because there is no SWARM in that transaction.

Asking for a friend of course!

P.S.: So far my research tells me that I must get the private key from Melotic SWARM wallet and re-import it into a Bitcoin wallet. I am looking for confirmation of whether that is the best course of action or not.

  I'd suggest contacting Melotic. They should be able to sort this out for you.

  you won't be able to get the private key for the Melotic wallet because they are an exchange, not really a wallet service. They own the private keys, so anything you send to them is technically theirs. Sucks to make that mistake though! You will most likely need to contact their support and they should be able to refund / send back the BTC you sent by accident
