@william To be honest, I don't really want to link up external accounts with LTB. It would crimp my listening routine, and also feel like I'm letting go of too much personal information.

Which is ok, we will never force you to connect your google or facebook account :)

Great! But there has been talk about linking up with soundcloud and apple accounts. That's why I said that I wouldn't want to do that in order to earn LTBcoin. I think that the "magic word" approach Adam is suggesting might work well.

Is distribution actually a useful metric? Seems easily gamed and not particularly meaningful.

If your actually interested in advertisement engagement or discussions sparked by episodes I would consider tracking different metrics instead.

If anything we would do proof of distribution where we basically take a bittorrent protocol and mary it with an ownership ledger system that encodes both the original uploader's payment address (from which all copies derive) and leaves a space for the last mile distributor. Those two individuals are the only people in the chain who are compensated, and since everything is time-stamped its very easy to resolve disputes - earlier timestamp wins.

    Makes sense...simple and smart.

For the listening stuff we're probably going to start with a "Magic Word" and then go to a "Proof of Education" per-episode-quiz. I'm not sure if we'll ever make that last step, but it would be preferable in my opinion although much more labor intensive.

I don't have a better idea than the magic word. As a listener, it would not be too much labor on my part. Maybe the trick is to use ltbcoin to incentivize the entire process to take the your labor out of the equation. If there's not a way to decentralize this task, I bet there's at least a handful of LTB listeners who would do this for ltbcoin. It could be a task with a bounty attached.

Yes, that's the idea. But its a bit further than Magic Words which will be fairly trivial to introduce.

In this weeks episode you announced the Magic Word idea. You said that there would likely be 48hr time span to redeem the proof-of-listening. I would request that you extend that to something more like 96 hours, or the time between episode of LTB.

Unless there is a really good argument for why 48hrs is better then 96, I'd like to here the reasoning.

No hard and fast reason, the thought is the longer the prize is redeemable the more non-listeners will somehow discover and game the system.

I like "magic word" and increased time window to 96hrs.

@adam No hard and fast reason, the thought is the longer the prize is redeemable the more non-listeners will somehow discover and game the system.

System gaming vs. Bots & farms: Any amount of time 24/48/96 will attract bots/farms if the LTBcoins per magic word is lucrative enough. Just a thought: I could easily create a script that logs in to 100,1000,.... accounts and makes a post to a particular page and leave the magic word, and so could a lot of other people (unless you had a capcha box in which case I'd have to get more creative). What if the Magic word didn't give any tokens, but instead gave a multiplier of a users weekly contribution. So instead of giving 1000LTB/episode give 0LTB (or a very minimal amount like 10LTB) and multiply their weekly participation earnings by 1.05. If my weekly participation were 5000LTB that week I'd get 1.05*5000LTB = 5250LTB. Maybe a 5% bump is to high or low, and you could have a scale of how each episode listened to affects the % bump (1 episode = 4%, 2 = 7%, 3+ = 9% etc...)

This way, WHEN I start my evil LTB magic word bot scheme I won't actually be taking much if anything away from the community.

I'd worry less about single users seeing the magic word on a forum post and entering it in. They are probably somewhat active anyway and this keeps them engaged, even if it is only minimally engaged. A guy taking a few tokens by entering the magic word is a potential user and part of the community. Bots/Farms on the other hand will only take away from the community. At the very least add a capcha box to the magic word entry, but even that isn't a 100% solution. Would it be worth someones time to get 1,000x the LTBcoin offered for entering the magic word each week?

PS I'd also prefer the magic word/listening time to be extended to 96+. Also, is there a feature that would let me create 1000 user accounts with a file upload, or do I need to have a script for that as well? :) just kidding.
