first of all, the proof would have to work. I'm not sure that social networking profiles can be used.. they can, but somebody will figure out how to cheat it. but the proof is in the pudding, and we'll see if/when it gets tested in the real world.
I'm posting this thread because I've been thinking about this.. how useful it would be to prove that you're a person. this could be done both anonymously and nonymously (if that's a word). there may be multiple implementations of "proof of human".. in some cases, other people know who you are, in other cases (dark proof?) they just know that you are a human.
a few good uses come to mind-
- voting- 1 human, 1 vote
- ebay-style reputations.. you can't escape a bad rep by just using a different address
- decentralized forums
- a crypto-based solution to google's and facebook's war to own your online identity. I would trust an open, decentralized solution much more than a proprietary company. and this will be a huge issue in the future.
that's all that comes to mind at the moment (it's 2:30am and I just got off work lol)... so does anyone else have any thoughts on this? other applications? other ways of doing the proof? do you think it can be done reliably with social networking profiles, as mentioned in the show?
