Here's a new article of an old rumour... does anyone have any other proof of NSA or CIA involvement. Seems to undermine the entire validity of the movement if it is true!

It all sounds pretty thin to me. I'm actually surprised it was published in the IBT. Especially since there was no mention of what motivation a government agency would have to create a currency could compete with the it's own. But hey, they invented TOR and now that's come back to bite them. So who knows. But I think I'll wait until Wall Street Journal publishes an article on it. Then it's probably time to pay attention.

Right, who ever did make it doesn't change much really, which is another genius thing behind bitcoin.

However, I've been working on a theory that it might have came from another world, meaning Satoshi was really an alien. :)

The aliens want to trade with us, they are already on a crypto currency (ETcoin, Xenocoin, UFOcoin, idk which has the market cap right now), and they couldn't just reveal themselves with out causing a lot of problems and of course war. So they are discreetly planting seeds to help advance our tech and civilization.

    I don't know, that's about as far as I got. :)

I don't buy into the idea that this decentralized beauty of digital engineering was created by a centralized institution that can't innovate or keep its own members from leaking its activities. If bitcoiners found out that this was true then the miners could fork to new rules or shift to a new coin, (Since the NSA or CIA made the code open source oops). Why do they need a decentralized currency to track people when centralized credit cards and banks track everything? Even your phone can record all your movements. If you say it is to get rid of cash, then why would it be a global currency open to people of other countries? Also if people found out that everything they did with bitcoin was transparent regardless of their own attempts to remain anonymous, then the criminals would go back to the still favored method of cash transactions thus defeating the point of using the technology to catch the flow of illicit trades.

100% agree on that part :)

If there is a "backdoor" like the article suggests, there are 20 alt coins willing and ready to take its place.

I'm still waiting to hear the rest of your theory before I make my decision :)

In this weeks Bitcoins and Gravy there was a discussion about the anti-big-bank political commentary inserted into the block chain by whoever has/had control over the wallet associated with Satoshi.

IMO, if BTC were a CIA creation, they wouldn't think or care to go that far. Not saying its definitive proof, or anything close. But, I'm a big fan of Okam's Razor theory and the block chain commentary supports the simple explanation rather than the more elaborate CIA conspiracy theory.
