Hey all, we use Mumble for the best quality content we generate on letstalkbitcoin.com and it's always suprised me how cheap the service is, it's about 3 dollars per month for a 10 person voice server you access via your computer. It uses a higher quality voice codec (the way it is compressed) than skype and has built in recording features.

So what I'm thinking is we're going to upgrade our 10 person server to a 100 person server and create a lot of different rooms then make the information public here. Anyone who would like to create a podcast or record a discussion can use it, and you'll be able to pay in LTBc to create a private room eventaully.

http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

If people wanted their own private servers, we could host our own and charge LTBc. Mumble is FOSS so no licensing fees or permission to acquire before providing the service for BTC and LTBc.

Would you be interested in such a voice server? Would you have a use for a private channel?

I have a mumble server set up for private use. Paying for a mumble server seems kinda odd to me, but I guess the access is "something of value" and thus can be paid for.

Hopefully more of the interviews can be done via mumble. A lot of times the host sounds perfect but the guest is very hard to hear and understand. In the last LTB episode it sounded like darth vader was snorkeling in the background...

Sometimes it really doesnt matter between skype or mumble if they have a lousy mic. Most bad audio is the fault of a lousy mic.

Right, it's like how anybody can host a website but most people just pay a few dollars a month to have it be someone elses headache. Same thing here, anyone can host a mumble server which is why its so cheap if you do want to pay for it, but nobody offers it in LTBc and Bitcoin ;)

Maybe put together a list of decent mics . Don't most apple products have decent mics? Or if they don't have a MacBook maybe have them buy a mic or ship them one. Have a traveling mic that the guests ship around or something. I don't know just brainstorming here.

@adam if you want I can change some settings on my server and you can use that for LTB, free of charge. If it ends up being a long-term thing that people enjoy and you like the service, then you're free to send LTBc's my way.

That said, I'm just happy if my 100mbit connection actually gets to see some action.

If I'm not doing math wrong, I'm using about 0.25% of the 100mbit connection:

"uptime 16:56:55 up 113 days" "recieved bytes bytes 2816345177540"

If you're interested, lemme know. I can set things up tonight/tomorrow.

Jonathan is this your private connection or a server you're already paying for?

Yes and Yes. I use Citrix and have Fibre but would like low level setup with highest quality.

It's my private connection. It mostly just power random webgames, webgalleries and acts as a backup-server for the company I'm working at.
