Hi guys! I'm writing this topic in the "Off-topic" section because I think that's not related with Bitcoin or LTBCoin but it's very important.

I'm talking about the site performance. Personally, I think that I have a "good" Internet connection but when I try to visit and navigate on the site/forum navigation and performance seem to be very poor and low… IMAO.

After 1 week testing if the problem it's because of my Internet connection and using the site, I think that it's not my problem and site is working a little bit low so I've decided to test their performance on GTMetrix (http://gtmetrix.com/reports/letstalkbitcoin.com/EwnP92W7)

As you can see, "Page Speed" and "YSlow grade" are too low. Site takes aprox 6.50s to load. This can be solved with too easy and most important steps that I think that site need to include:

  • Minifying JavaScript and unnecessary CSS code (little bit of optimization, deleting non-useful source...)
  • Make fewer HTTP requests
  • Add Expires headers on the .htaccess file that can be generated on the site host.
  • Optimize images. This can be done with something like the free service that https://kraken.io offers :)

Hope that this topic help all the community that's enjoying Lets Talk Bitcoin! :P

Note: that's not a criticism, that's a topic to increase site speed and performance to make it more comfortable for new users and visitors.

I have noticed that when first opening pages that it does work slower. I have tried over wired and wireless connection and the results are the same. I also have tried from outside my network and still the same. I am not sure what is going on, but its not anywhere near the unbearable point.

Possible due to high resolution pictures?

Could be, as I've said one of the things that forum devs can do is optimize the images that take part from the website like the logo, backgrounds and many many more. With services like kraken.io imager != going to lose their quality, it's just an optimization to reduce their size a little bit.

As well, expiry headers are a good option to boost it too :P

Let's see if site can be faster with this little improvements mentioned on the 1 post!

I agree, I was simply agreeing that that idea is the most likely situation as it is for many websites.

The images load an order of magnitude faster for me than the javascript files. Optimizing them is not going to do much - LTB logo is only 27k for example (background wallpaper could be smaller tho).

Frankly, if not many people are feeling the pain then it's probably more useful to focus on adding cool new stuff like sponsorship or improving existing things like posting & editing features. There is always optimizing that can be done, but there's always a tradeoff of time and attention too.

Also worth mentioning is that the more information you can give, the better you empower people to improve things. So FWIW here's how this page looks from my end of the tubes.

@mdw i would never want to sacrifice the great features here :O I depend on them a lot. But like I said, its not bad, but it is a tiny bit delayed. But from the looks of it from your shot, it doesnt look like that much stuff is loading, I am not worried about it

Sometimes I have noticed the site loads more slow than normal but I always just figured that backend maintenance was being performed since they're getting ready to roll out new site features.
