I feel that there were a couple points that came up in the second LTBcoin Q&A Hangout that I wanted to discuss further:What would happen if someone wanted to sell something that was more expensive than the total market cap of LTBcoin? My understanding is that services within the LTB network will be denominated in LTBcoin. As long as this is true, Adam was correct in explaining that ultimately the market cap doesn't matter because people using the network will have LTBcoin and can redeem it. People currently outside the network would have to exchange another currency to acquire LTBcoin. As this happens, it will drive the price of LTBcoin up (basic principle of demand increasing). Thus, the market cap will also be driven up due to the price per LTBcoin increasing.
Even here, the market cap does not matter because the LTBcoin is what is ultimately needed to redeem a service. So if someone buys $10,000 of LTBcoin over the period of a week, it could affect the price of LTBcoin in any number of ways depending on how much is currently available on the exchange. The market cap could increase by $20 or $20,000... or it could even go down if a number of additional LTBcoins flood the market. Ultimately, the purchaser of those coins simply wants them in order to redeem a service or product, so the market cap is irrelevant.
All that said, with the finite supply of coins in the deflationary model proposed, eventually the LTBcoin reach a maximum possible supply. And assuming that products and services are constantly offered through the LTB network that have value, some form of equilibrium will begin to present itself. Advertisers presumably will want to have airtime on a targeted and widely distributed network and will have to continue to put money into the network in order to acquire the LTBcoins. As prices are driven up, holders of the LTBcoin will reach a price at which it becomes desirable to liquidate their position.
Is there any value to LTBcoin and how will prices denominated in LTBcoin affect it?The answer is yes as long as there are certain products or services that someone sees as having value, and those services are only redeemable with LTBcoin. It's as simple as that.
There will be an interesting responsibility on Adam and the LTB network to determine prices. It seems they will have to make some arbitrary decisions early on and will have to react according to how the markets change -- and I really mean that in the sense of supply/demand of their products and services as opposed to the price point of LTBcoin. Reactions to the LTBcoin/BTC rate will likely make things less stable than more stable in the long-term, but adjusting prices based on the demand of the actual services will let the market determine the exchange rates more efficiently.
